Getting another Hard Disk

I was looking online at buying another HD for my laptop but I am unsure what interface I need to get... there are laptop HD's available in SATA, SATA 2, and ATA-6... which one would my 9880 use?.. I am going to end up getting something like a 40 or 60GB HD so I can dual boot linux and have each driver seperated... are there any special requirements on drive stuff for the 9880?..

You will first need to know what type of drive that you currently have in your 9880. It will be either an SATA or ATA device. That being said, you will need a "like" device as you can not mismatch an SATA and ATA on the same cable. So if you have an ATA drive, that is what you must buy, likewise if you have an SATA drive, that is what you must buy,

Now you can buy another cable assembly; however, that will require you to buy two like drives different than the one that you currently have installed.

I don't think that the 9880 has the SATA-2 drives; however, they may work with an existing SATA (-1) drive - just don't know for sure.

You can see the serial part number of your HD in windows and do a search on the manufacturer site. What kind ok HD do you have ? (size, rpm etc ...)

well unfortunately my machine is being RMAed right now so I can't check... I have the 60 GB 5400 RPM SATA Drive... if anyone has the model information on that it would be great... oh and for my linux drive... how slow would a 4200 RPM drive seem?..

Hey well I have chosen three drives that I have found that are Fujitsu sata drives...

If anyone has a 9880 with the SATA drives would you please check to see if they are any of these?..

80GB SATA 300

40 GB SATA 150

60 GB SATA 150

I bought a Fujitsu ATA drive and think that their warranty service is very good; unfortunately, I had to use it because the drive quit working after about 100 hours of use. My advice is to use caution when choosing this device. The cost savings will not offset the RMA shipping costs.

Thanks for the advice... but those are the only ones I can really find from a retailer I trust... most of the retailers I normally use do not have SATA Laptop HDs of any kind... well other than Hitachis... but they now own all the old IBM stuff... and I learned a long time ago not to trust the IBMs... For desktops I use nothing but Western Digitals...
