I recently bought a vantec nexstar 2 for putting my WD 200G in it.
Now, it had been running for 5 days, then one day, while working on that HDD, files started being reported as corrupt, then getting read/write persmission access errors, and slowly, while watching a video, the sound became completely distorted (video file on that HDD)
Reboot
the partitions on that HDD show in datarecovery softwares, as NTFS partitions, but cant access the NTFS file systems. Windows XP reports the partition as RAW.
So, okay, oh well, weird. I format them, everything is dandy again.
2 days later, same scenario, working on some stuff on it as usual, here come the corrupted messages, write/read access errors, and BAM, they become RAW again.
Now that drive has caused me no problem before as internal. The recovery softwares I use can read the surface just fine, no broken clusters, no weird noises, no weird fault, getdataback can get my databack
... but the partition tables themselves went up the FUBAR twice.
Someone told me its the PCBA controller of my external kit that is dying.
I just want some opinions of if this is a HDD problem, or the kit's problem.
