cooling pad...do you need it?

I have a hpzv6000 series notebook...
If I'm using it on a desk or flat surface, do I need to have one?
Compusa tried to sell me one saying it will run to hot without one, and I'll fry it. I did't buy one yet...
Will I be ok without it?

thanks

They lied. You do not need one.

The salesperson probably was trying to sell you a cooling pad. It is not essential, but it wouldn't hurt either. I prefer once since it's not that expensive and can be quite affordable, depending on what brand you buy!

well my hard drive died on me in 1 year. It could have been just a faulty drive, it could have been the heat. I donno.

i have a cooling pad for my lappy, and it makes a little difference (of about 2-3 C idling)... the only difference without cooling pad is that temp spikes more quickly, but once it gets to 60 C, the built in fans take care of it and never goes above 60 C...

(only advantage is when using the lappy on one's lappy or grass, etc...)
