CPU Load increase GPU temp?

Got a quick question I've been transfering files from my external HD and DVD files to another external HD so the the cpu temperature is around 40-50c. But what gets to me it seems that my GPU temp. keep increasing to 58c than the fan is running on high. So does increasing the CPU Load by transfering file increases the GPU Temp.

GPU fan turn on high after 10-15 minutes of transfering file under heavy load.

Well... the cpu heats up, so the ambient heats up, so the graphics card heats up, increasing the ambient temps even more...

It's normal IMO.

in that case, I have no idea

only if you're runnin' something that's usin' the GPU, otherwise no way it should chg temps - other than as noted previously...

if you open your LT you will find the the cpu heatsink sits between the fan and one of the GPU heatsinks. Therefore the hot air from the cpu heatsink blow past/through the left side GPU heatsink. It makes sense to me looking at it like that, But only to the extent of 1-3C not 10-20C like you are running a 3d app.

If you have examined the heat pipe system of the XPS2, you'd see that the GPU shares its left cooler with the CPU. Thus, any higher temps on the left heat sink caused by the CPU temp would effect the core temp of the GPU once the left heat pipe and sink has reached its max heat dissipation ratings.

I just got home after helping my friend out today. I left my Xps on download for 8 hours and when I got home I saw the temperature was at 60-66c fan on high idling. I'm like what the hell not even the CPU temp. was 50. So just now I reinstall the Dell Driver and insteading of increasing the temp. which I had using the 77.77 the Dell driver actually decrease and was stable at 52(Dell Driver) instead of 58 (77.77). I think it was a Driver issue instead of CPU load increasing temp. So those who's having the same problem try different video driver if your GPU temp keep increasing under CPU Load.

Yes that's abnormal increase from ambient temp. Good tidbit. What driver mod did you use to get them to work and is that 77.77 the whql one or the non?

FYI: not everyone's mother board has a shared exhaust with cpu/gpu sinks. Depends if you have the chinese or taiwanese set.

77.77 is non whql and that is the one that is causing the temp. increase on idle. I switch back to Dell 77.24 and the temp. of the GPU never increase and fan doesn't turn on "high" when the CPU is on 100% load. So My advice is stick with Dell Driver they gave me the best result in benchmark and in temp.
