Gateway support stinks - perhaps someone here can help

Thread Starter
I have an M680 which I love except for the fact that the media card reader can't handle my Sandisk 2.0 GB SD card. The M680 recognizes my Sandisk 1.0 GB SD card but not the 2.0 SD card.

Gateway's online tech chat was worthless and as was the two email response from Gateway tech support. Add insult to injury they had the nerve to wrap up their correspondance with a thank-you and we were glad to help. HELP WHAT...help me waste my time.

Here's what I know for anybody out there who might be able to help.
1) I have two SD cards, both Sandisk, one 1.0 GB and the other a 2.0 GB
2) The 1.0 GB works fine but nothing happens when I insert the 2.0 GB card
3) Gateway had me try wacky things which made no sense and ultimately showed nothing.
4) I found a driver download for the media card reader on the Gateway website. Downloaded it. Installed and no change to the behavior.
5) My guess is the media card reader drivers can't read an SD card with a size over 1.0 GB. Unfortunately Gateway can't even tell me the manufacturer of the media card reader on the M680 so I am at a dead-end with trying to get a driver update.
6) Sandisk website has driver updates but they are for specific devices and again Gateway can't tell me the manufacturer of the 4-in-one media reader on my M680
7) Surely there must be someone at Gateway who knows something about the card media readers they install on their machines.

HELP ANYONE!!!!!

I had the same problem with my 512MB Sandisk. There is no fix because there are no new drivers. It apparently has to do with a special version of FAT they use on larger/newer sticks. Nothing you can do about it but buy an external reader thats newer and by a good name brand so you'll get drive support.

There is a similar thread over here:

Speaking a formating, I had an unrecognized Sandisk card a while ago that wasn't showing up. I reformated and voila!

No Gateway just has cheap terrible media card readers. It won't even read my ritek 1gb card. I use my palm as a reader now, although its painfully slow.

Whats the card from? Cam? PDA? My 1G Scandisk card was giving me troubles on my MX3558 so I reformatted it with my PDA and it works fine. I used Pocket Mechanic to do it on the PDA.

ACDC, I had a similar problem with a CF card in my 7422GX which would not read the CF card from my Canon camera. I tried to reformat with no success. I then tried to read the card through the PCMCIA slot, and to my surprise it reads and writes flawlessly.
