really confused between these models...buying in india....even lookin at australia coz my relative is coming...australia has the 2 ghz model of m40 as well..is there a lot of diff b/w 1.73 and 2ghz??

2 models in satellite...1 with 1.73 but with dvd writer...2nd 1.86 but only cd dvd combo ...prob with satellite that only ddr ram not ddr2 ...both with geforce 6600 128 mb...1 yr international warrenty

in tecra there are a few models...
tecram3- 2331...1.86 with ddr 2 ram and 14 inch monitor and with dvd writer
p2401...1.73 ddr2 but with only geforce 6200 128 mb...they are also giving 3 yrs international warrenty with these tecra models

satellite m50....graphics card x600 128 mb

so which 1 do u suggest?? need for uni but also for gaming....14 inch and 15.4 doesnt matter too much....but will 14 inch 1s have widescreen?? is widescreen better...plzzz let me know..really confused

also let me know whether toshiba is the best option...other options are dell inspiron 6000...acer aspire 1693wlmi and sony vaio

I chose the Canadian M40 for university next year. Look into battery life reviews for M3, I know that if your courses are stacked then you'll need outlets while taking notes during lectures with the M40. Not sure if it's the same with M3. My classes are laid out ok and I'll have plent of free time during the day where I could charge my laptop. I haven't played around with mine too much yet but I already chose a bag for it and it's not too heavy to haul around.

I really have to write the review on my M40 soon Math assessment test this Friday and after that I get the rest of the month to set it up and post info about it.

for gaming go m40 2.0ghz, the 6200 in the m3 is good but its about the same power as the x600, and that is bottom of the line for modern gaming with a dedicated card. if you want to game you need a mid to high range card and that is the 6600 or the x700 or above.

the 1.86 ghz model doesnt have dvd writer...but the 1.73 one does....i wanted the dvd writer.....1.73 has xp hom while 1.86 has xp pro i think .....so what do u think?? which is the better choice?? is there a lot of diff betwen the 1.73 and 1.86???i'm planning to get a ram upgrade to 1 gb and get a 80 or 120 gb external hard disk coz i'm thinking that 60 gb might get a little less....i'm gonna end up paying Rs 1,00,000

btw i also have an option of getting the m40 from austrlia....they are giving 2 ghz processor...1 gb ram....external 40 gb hard disk.....for around 3000$....which comes to about the same...Rs. 1,00,000 ...do u think its better to order from australia coz my relative is comin back from there.....but it'll be more convinient to buy from here....my dad is more keen for me to buy from india itself coz my relative who is comin from aus doesnt have much of an idea about laptops so i guess she cant check it before she comes...also i dont know the good places to buy from in australia...does any1 know the best and cheapest places where i can buy from in australia, melbourne....but if there is not too much diff between 1.73 and 2 ghz then i would prefer to buy from india...

1 more thing...is there a lot of difference between ddr1 and ddr2 ram?? and can the ddr ram in m40 be replaced with the ddr2???? coz the tecra m3 model has ddr2...it has geforce 6600 128 mb as well..but its for 1,30,000 Rs here and also i prefer the look and the widescreen of satellite m40

also how is the toshiba service in uk...i'm going to oxford to study for a year

toshiba uk ervice should be no problem.... good luck at oxford man.

as for the difference, the 1.73 to a 2.0 will show a very good difference in gaming, in things like word processing it wont be a big difference but in gaming it will be much more pronounced. i dont think your relative should be able to go too wrong in the australia order and if your relative is living there you could order it online from toshiba australia and have the correct model delivered to that persons place there and then you would for sure get the right one.

the ram difference is minimal but ddr2 is newer. no you cant replace across from ddr1 to ddr2 but in the real world the difference is not that huge and certainly not enough to discount a notebook just cause it is ddr1. something to note is that the card in the m3 is a TE card so it is not like a full 6600 its more like an x600 for performance. it will do the modern stuff just not at the absolute best settings, more low-med settings. where the full 6600 from the m40 can do it at med settings all the time.

external hard drives are a very good idea, at least 160gb in size if not more. when you get into downloading stuff you need loads of space.
