AW/Sager/Hypersonic All Basically the Same?

I posted this in the "General" forum, but I never got any replies so I'm not sure if many people read it. Sorry for the re-post if you saw it...

I'm now buying a new laptop and have to decide between either:

Alienware 51M 7700
Sager 9880
Hypersonic Aviator EX7

I was originally set on the AW because I'd heard they were one of the best. I'd never even heard of Sager or Hypersonic, but these forums have changed that (thanks to all those who know more than me and have taken the time to post!). I've always bought Dells and I want to venture out and do what I consider an "upgrade" from Dell. I need true desktop replacement and am set on one of these models for several reasons.

I know everybody has a brand preference, but other than cosmetics, I see no big difference in the above machines, when configuring them apples to apples. All three of my choices are Clevo D900T (again something I learned from these forums; again, thanks), all with changes that appear to be cosmetic only. Am I missing something? Also, it seems to me that ordering a Sager through PC Torque offers the best deal deal in terms of $$.

I realize there are differences among these three companies in terms of service, but I'm speaking strictly of hardware. Personally I couldn't care less about the "cool factor" or how the machine looks, so I'm talking technical specs only.

Beyond the AW glowing eyes on the cover, and the spectrum of paint choices offered through Hypersonic, are these three machines really all the same on the inside?

Yes they are all a clevo clone and have EXACT same parts inside.

The AW guys say they have the "best" memory from AW. But you can always replace the factory Sager/Hypersonic memory with the "best" memory if you wanted.

Here's an idea; go to www.resellerratings.com and check out the user ratings on Alienware, as compared to PCTorque or Discount Laptops, then go to www.epinions.com and check out Alienware.

You'll never buy from them, I can assure you!

I had the same problem last November before the 9860 came out. For whatever reason, while I was about to buy the AW counterpart, I found this forum and Sager. I've never been more happy in my life! Sure, you'll hear some people complain about problems and things not working, but really any company will have some of those. It's how those problems are handled that makes the difference! If you're just looking at hardware and price, they're all the same. For me, I've never had a better experience ordering through PCTorque. I e-mailed Luke several times about my order and kid-you-not, the guy actually replied to me within a few hours. And this was at about 4pm on the West Coast! When I decided to see how their phone service was and called in, I got Luke and I felt like I was talking to a celebrity! Yeah, I'm weird, but I'm really into customer service.

Anyway, do like painkilller says and check out resellerratings and epinions. You'll definitely think twice about ordering from AW.

Coming from a person that has dealt with alienware, I would not recommend them. I think they just got too big too fast.

Check this thread:

Apacer is the brand of memory used by Sager and the rest of them too.

So as was stated they all contain the exact same hardware.

Brand of memory difference

For Hypersonic Aviator EX-7 model, you can chose non-brand or Mushkin brand memory. For Fusion EX-7 mobile workstation, you can chose Crucial or Corsair, but I just check with configuration page and found they don't offer them any more.

For AW,Sager,I can't find any information about their memory brand.

Chrisintn,
I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying from PCT and buying a SAGER!!
Their customer service during the buying process and on these forums is FIRST CLASS. Thanks to people like Luke, Sean and Adam, et al.

Also and more important is that AFTER you buy, a lot of Companies Cust Service goes to ZERO, after all they now have your hard earned cash!
Now if a problem happens with your PC how much frustration do you want to put up with trying to get service from Tech Support????
I loved my 9880 but it unfortunately developed a hardware fault so I ended up sending it back for a refund. Sager and PCT Tech Support were 1st rate. I could call PCT Tech Support 24/7 and get straight thru to a level 3 tech. NO AUTOMATED RUN AROUND. A real person within 10 sec. They spoke to me for hours, conferred, mailed me files etc to try and get me thru my problems. No complaints and no bad attitudes.
I will be buying a new DTR soon when they are released in a month or so.

Good luck with your choice.

Congrats,
I hope you enjoy using it and owning it.
I also hope you DON"T need to ever call tech support.

the type of memory doesnt matter too much, you wont really notice that much of a difference. the "better" brand memory like kingston or what have you may be more reliable, or be able to stand up to overclocking better, but speaking without any experience i think thats a bunch of hogwash when it comes to laptops
