Nec 6500A into Asus Z80K

Sold my combo drive into sister in law's HP notebook. That left a DVD writer size hole in Z80K. Want to put NEC 6500A DVD dual layer writer into my Z80k.

Pros & cons?

Should different drive be installed?

Is face plate only problem?

3.4 GHz Athlon 64, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD, 5" hole in right side.

I am not familiar with the Z80K but the Asus face plate SHOULD fit the NEC drives. They seem to use the now standard bezel mounting scheme.

I would go with the NEC 6650. It is a new design for NEC and all the reviews like it so far. Newegg has them here for $100 shipped.

Failed Panasonic combo in HP had flat clip on face. Toshiba combo drive from Asus Z80K had face secured with 3 screws and curved to match Asus side. She got my face. If NEC 6500A can fit Asus face, I will be looking for source to buy face. Ordered drive minutes ago.

The NEC drives use no screws, just clips. The NEW toshiba drives match the NEC, older toshiba drives used a different attachment. My original Asus drive was a TSST and the bezel fit just fine. Good luck
