Sager models vs. Clevo models - Page 2

The Sager 2720 comes standard with a 2.4 Celeron, the next step up is the 2.0 P4. I believe that the 2720/D27ES can only go up to 2.4

so you are saying that it can be expanded up to 2.4 even after I buy a certain configuration?

thanks again. it's funny to ask a stranger's help on the other side of the globe. even more surprising to me that i actually did get help. best wishes.

I really can't say much about Clevo directly. I didn't purchase directly from Clevo or Sagernotebook.com, but through a reseller similar to PCTorque. My 5670, a Clevo 5600D(S), is great and since it was really built by Clevo, I hold Clevo in high regards for a fine product.
But eurocom despite the name is a canadian company so not sure if that will help people in europe much

I listed Eurocom because I'm pretty sure they ship to Europe. About expanding: yes, I do believe that if you buy a Celeron computer you could upgrade to the P4 since both of the processors are Socket 478 pieces.

FYI, PCTorque and Sager also ship to europe via UPS international, which for me was $160

Do you mean the D800P, markin? In that case, it is an 8890. I've never heard of the D8P.

The 8890 actually says D8P on the label on the bottom, but it is the clevo model D800P.

Hi, ROBERT602

Saw you got your lap in Europe for $160..Can you expand a bit more details:

to which country?
taxes you paid?
any other fees (brokerage?)
timings?

How do you expect to handle technical service questions, should - hope not-the need arise?

Would really appreciate your answers since need to urgently buy a good nb

No problem, I got mine shipped to the UK. The $160 covers shipping costs including brokerage and handling fees, which were minor (about $20, can't remember exactly). I had to pay taxes of 17.5%, which is a standard tax on all items bought in the UK. Most countries have similar taxes although they go by different names. You can usually claim this back if you put the laptop down as a business expense.

I used UPS standard delivery which is guaranteed 4 days but ships to most countries in Europe within 2 days. I delayed my order by changing it after I placed it but otherwise international orders take the same time as american orders. The one exception to that is if you order a non-NTSC TV tuner, Sager dont always keep these in stock so it can delay the order. In my case though, Sager had some PAL TV tuners in stock so there was no delay.

Tech support is the biggest problem as far as I can see ordering from abroad. Sager have a policy of paying return shipping costs, but this does not apply to international orders, so you have to pay both ways. Delivery times shouldnt be too long though, it depends which delivery service you choose. Fortunately there are clevo service centres in Germany and the UK, which cover parts costs and do repairs if anything goes wrong, but you do have to pay labour costs, £100 in the UK.

If you just have technical questions and dont need to service the laptop, then emailing sager is the best way, it's free and usually fairly quick and detailed.

Just added the 5690. Anyone see something missing that they would like info on? Let me know.

Believe Marquis mentioned locating a possible host for individual model(s) product manuals, perhaps even service manuals, drivers, applications, and such.

Did this ever come to pass? If not, I would be willing to consider taking on such a project at no cost (at least on a preliminary basis).

Is the address ftp.clevo.com.tw?
Appears ftp.clevo.com.tw (or sftp.clevo.com.tw) does not allow anonymous browsing. This link leads to the download page, instead.

Do hope this helps.

Curious that no one offered opinion on this. Is there simply no interest in a server making the above mentioned items available?
