Just got a Tecra A4-S211 (arrives on Friday) - need advice on changing parts.. - Page 2

i have a toshiba tecra A4, which originally run from a Celeron M 1.4Ghz 400FSB.

I also have a Pentium Centrino 1.73Ghz 533FSB from a vaio fs series. Will this processor work in the Toshiba? Someone told me the maximum cpu i can run in the tecra is one with a 400FSB, but i don't believe him!

Thanks!

Check out Toshiba.com for the larger processor offered in the A4. The BIOS will normally only support a processor to a certain range. Also check out the FSB offered with the largest processor. You should have started your own thread instead of "piggybacking"on someone else's

I didn't want to start a new thread because it would be a waste of space, and i decided to "piggyback" this thread because if you had read it or not, it was completely relevant to the OP, as in our quest to find a compatible maxium CPU upgrade for the Toshiba Tecra A4. I didn't choose any old thread to "piggyback".
what an unfriendly welcome.

Should work fine, there were Tecra A4's that shipped from Toshiba with that CPU in it. If you post the rest of your model nnumber I could check the chiopset and give you a more definite annswer. If it's a US model, the number should be A4 followed by a -Sxxx where xxx are thre numbers.

Thank you kindly for your reply, the model number is PTA4OE-01R00VEN. Its a uk model, so i'm not really sure. all searches for this model come up saying that is a celeron M processor, but no details about an upgrade. Will i damage the laptop if i tried the Centrino cpu anyway?

A link for the laptop is:

http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Toshi...EN/version.asp

or Toshiba's direct:

Tecra A4 - with IntelĀ® Celeron...

It's hard to say, but you will definately void your warranty

It has the 915pm chipset, the same one that was shipped i the A4's in the US with that same processor (the pentium M). I'm sure it will work. The voltages of the celeron and the PM are the same, so you won't ruin anything by trying (assuming you don't break anything during the operation). Saugen's got a good point though, if you have any warranty left it will be voided by changing the CPU.
