Sound quality question

I've been playing around with my new 5660 and my old pc periphs. I have all my old stuff (kb, mouse, and speakers) connected to my lappy now. Anyway, while playing CS, I noticed my sound quality was really quite bad. Alot of crackling and hissing, and alot of general noise too. I tried several options, such as changing from my headphones to my 5.1 speaker setup, and I also tried changing the speaker settings for the sound chip from the reccomended 5.1 speakers, to headphones and then back.

This problem only started when I connected my old stuff to my 5660. It didn't stop when I disconnected the pieces, either. I had to change my sound quality from high to low in half-life. Has this happened to anyone else? Are there updated drivers for the avance sound chipset?

I did install the audio drivers for the Avance AV'97 audio chip (the one that the 5660 uses). I followed the directions in the users manual, and installed all the drivers in the correct order.

My sound worked fine for a while, but after I connected my mouse, KB, and speaker system, the sound went to crap. Now it won't work very well in any games, although the sound for Windows and any other non-games is fine (dvd, winamp, etc, all work fine)
