Need laptop for College... need help choosing...

Ok, the main apps. to be used are Photoshop and Illustrator. But, I will also be playing games (pretty much constantly). Games include: Half-Life 2, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, and occasional demos of new FPS. I run them mostly at 1024x768, and details and stuff set from medium to max. This is where my question is.... what vid. card should I go for?

Screen size isn't too important, but I would like the screen to support 1920x1200 (on 15.4's and 17's).

So my choices so far include the XPS2, the 9300, the Sager 3880 (PC-torque). And since the choices would be the 6800 Ultra, 6800 GO and 6600 GO. So my question is, how good is the 6600GO with games in general, and at what resolutions/details? As I've read some info on the 6800's, but nothing much on the 6600.

BTW, Ram on machines would be 1GB and CPU 2GHz

Thanks for any help.

For the games your looking at the Ultra isn't needed - not for the money you would be spending.

I would say "go" with the 6800 Go. Bwhahaha.
And if you do decide to get the Go (ie. 9300 I guess), no need to get 2GHz. And just get the 256 ram and buy 1gig of newegg and you got 1.25gigs for less than 1gig on dell! Mwhahah!!

Hmm, I was leaning towards the 9300 so far. But also I want it to be somewhat future-proof.

Also, yeah, I was gonna order with the least amount of RAM, and buy more RAM for it myself.

What is 'future proof' in the laptop world?

Get complete care and years down the road the lappy suddenly takes a fall...

Well, not sure in general what it would mean, but for me, to run games for the next 2 years, decently.. hehe....

yeah, 9300 at least if you want to game for 2 years. I was looking at an Asus based laptop with the 6600 before I discovered the Dell 9300 for the same price. The asus boys were getting a little over 1500 on 3DMark05. Check my sig for my score... If you want a machine that will last you a long time, maybe even check out the XPS 2, you'll score stock around 5000.

9300 and future proof:
it runs even the newest games (FEAR and BF2) at med to high settings AND at 1920 x 1200. If you go down to 1024 x 768 or the equivalent widescreen resolution, you'll be playing games on high settings with AA for quite a long time. Hope this helped...

IT does help, thanks a bunch, I wanted some opinions from people with either the 9300/XPS2 and their games at resolutions of 1024x768 or its widescreen equivalent.

Heres how I like to think of it. Be cheap now, so you can save up and hit it big later!
