UPS + Dell = Worst. Duo. EVER.

So, I ordered an XPS Gen 2 on July 27th. 40% coupon yadda yadda...

Due to the fact that school is starting up, they are pushed back on a lot of things, including laptops. So, I said thats fine, and it would get here August 8th.

Also during the week of August 8th is Quakecon, which I attend every year. Now, August the 8th is a monday. I waited in my home town till tuesday the 9th. The laptop was not there. I called dell and had them change the address to where I was staying in Dallas. I was told that this would not delay the order at all. I'd get the laptop the day before the Quakecon event, and all would be fine.

Wednesday is the first day I was told it would be delivered that day. I waited all day long without leaving the appartment so I wouldnt have to chase down the package.

No package on Wednesday.

I call UPS and they tell me that the package is infact in dallas and that it will be delivered on thursday 100%.

No package on thursday.

After about 4 hours on the phone with UPS, they finally 'fess up and tell me that they lost the package en route to Dallas. So here I am, in Dallas at a 3800 person LAN.. with no computer (im on a friends).

I call dell right after I get offa the phone with UPS. They tell me that they are sending another XPS Gen 2 on monday and that I should expect it on Tuesday.

Do not EVER EVER EVER buy from Dell and have it shipped through UPS.

/rant off.

I wouldn't mind so much if UPS could actually deliver on time and not lose a 3500$ laptop just 'casually' while lieing to me the whole time on the phone...

I'm sorry for just being another whining thread, but im frustrated to **** about all of this.

Ahhh, yes, UPS...
Simply never give UPS a moving target to hit, and you're (more likely) gonna be okay.

I have to say, though, I never had anything lost through them before (deformed YES, lost NO).

You know, it just hit me.

When I was like 5 or 6, UPS ran over my dog. And now...

They screw up a laptop order.

... Commies.

I got mine from FedEx np

However, when I had the replacement sent to me (through FedEx as well) I had a very hard time getting UPS to pick up the old one. I called Dell on a Friday evening and they set up UPS to come Monday morning. No one showed monday so I figured I would give em another day. No one showed up on Tuesday so I called Dell and they said that UPS tried to pick it up on Monday but no one was home ... BS! cause I was home ALL!!!!! DAY! I never let my house even for a second. I called UPS and they said there was a note left too .. BS again cause there was no note.

So, Dell scheduled UPS to come again on Wednesday. I suggested they send DHL or FedEx but they said UPS was fine ... ok whatever. Wednesday hits and no UPS again. I give it till Thursday and still no UPS. I call Dell again and they said the pickup was canceled via UPS cause the driver on the route in my area quit.... wth?!? a driver quits and you hault all package delivery and pickups for that area?!? LOL

At that point I as to speak with a manager at Dell and tell them if they dont send either FedEx or DHL I will take that as a sign that they dont want the laptop back and will assume to keep it... 2 hours later DHL show up at my door wanting to pickup the laptop

I've had no issues with Dell + UPS. I've also had over 10 computers shipped to my house from them via that method. It always ships in two days even though its marked as ground. Great stuff!

I have never had problems with ups at all. no problems with them delivering my sager and dell but I have had problems with fed-ex roughing up some stuff. I dont think it matters who you go with, its mostly a crap shoot!
The problems always seem to start when you change an order or an address on them, it's like turning the Titanic, once they get started in one direction, it's hard to get them turned around with any degree of accuracy.

Another thing I've noticed about horror stories, the more times you call them during the order process, the more likely things are to screw up.

Some things just happen and you can't do anything about it.

I would smash my XPS on the ground to save my dog when it comes down to it. I mean it's far more worse they ran over your dog then lost your laptop.

I got mine by fedex. for some reason they deliver it to my office, but the address on the account was home? weird.............
Well, the fact that you were changing the delivery location and needed it by a very certain date and they say, 'No problem!" should have been a warning indicator.

Murphy's Law. Know what I mean?

Personally, I never have had any issues with UPS but thats just me.

Yeah, I agree thats where I screwed up.. but I mean, dell said that the guy that told me it wouldnt delay it in anyway screwed up.. and I kinda trust what they say (moreso then I do now)

But oh well, lets just help I'm not sitting in the line for XPS Gen 2's again so I have to wait 2 weeks

You just had bad luck. It happens. UPS has been great for me.

I gotta agree with you, UPS sucks when delivering Dell stuff. My first Dell order went okay. My second order was where it started getting bad. My monitor came but they didn't deliver the computer itself until the next day even though they were sent together. My third order (my 6000D) was a nightmare. It was supposed to arrive on a Wednesday. I stayed at home ALL day waiting and nothing, I guess the UPS guy got lazy and just didn't bother saying nobody was home. It was rescheduled for Thursday. I stay home again ALL day and guess what? No UPS, the online tracking showed "THE PACKAGE WAS LEFT, NO ATTEMPT TO DELIVER WAS MADE" It finally arrived on Friday at 7PM (which I waited all day too). I wish Dell would ship more things by Fedex or DHL, they always get here fine.

lol, it cracks me up that they were so strict about sending UPS to pick up your laptop. I work for UPS and I cannot for the life of me get dell to ship anything for me through UPS. Everytime I call them I tell them I want my items shipped UPS...never once has dell done it for me.

As to your problem Moogles, I'm sorry you had such a bad experence. Hearing that the driver quit is a big indicator of your problem. He was probably disgruntled or something and he was just telling his suprevisor that he left notes when in reality he wasnt. It happens...people lie. But the good news is that he isnt your driver any more after quitting (probably was going to get fired if he didnt quit) and you should see better service.
