Welcome to the forum.

Yeah, I have to say they are great. They work so far 100% of the places I've been to. Nice speed.

Hey Mike,

Are you a Verizon or Sprint guy?

So if I buy a bluetooth phone and get bluetooth capable card in my laptop, I could be able to use the internet? Or do I need plug to connect those two things?
Also would using a phone be the only way to truly get internet around the world? Because I'm going to visit relatives etc and etc in China and still would like to use the internet... is satetilite isp and using a phone the only options?

Is there a prepaid EVDO service? It'd be handy for whgen I visit the US.

Thanks

I have to say, after using this baby for the past 4-5 months, this stuff rock.

I travel weekly (business consultant) and this baby rock! The only place where I came across so far with out any freaken signal is in Concour "C" @ Twin City Airport!

I am sitting in Denver airport now and get a sweet 5 bar max signal!

Yes, I wouldn't describe $50 a day as cheap. I might look at alternatives.

I was going to try the service until I read this, "NationalAccess/BroadbandAccess services cannot be used (1) for uploading, downloading or streaming of movies, music or games" oh well.

are there any services in Canada like this? Ontario is all I really need, sometimes Nova Scotia/Quebec but Ontario would be fine if thats all that is available.

First off I'd like to say that when I first heard about this card I nearly &#@* myself. Then when I heard the subscription fee I did @#$% myself, but fear not I was able to deduct it a s a buissness expense and now I'm rollin'.

1. Speed
Since it sends data in packets (like cell phones) your not gonna be as fast as standard WI-Fi but when I tried it out I found it to be very close to as fast as my wireless card. It took a bit longer to get to my gmail account and other large pages but all in all its really great speed wise. 7/10

2. Ease of use
Extremly easy to set up. Cd guides you through the whole thing and your up and running in no time! After set up i slipped it in my lappy and I was ready to go. There is a desktop shortcut that appears and when you double click it takes you instantly tothe connection page where you press a button and your online. 9/10

3. Location, Location, Location
What is there to say works anywhere you can get a cell phone signal. I'm using it right now to type up this review in a car on the way to Dallas TX. Were in the middle of the boonies but it still works as if I was in the middle of town. Taken it everywhere and have not lost signal yet. 10/10

4. Gamin'
Don't even try it since it sends data in packets it lags even on flash games. There still playable but I wouldn't use this as your quick online game fix. Sorry to all those alienware and XPS owners but all the hardware in the world can't help you now. However Google video although it takes a while is still managable, which leads me to belive that you can configure it to work with games but I wouldn't reccomend it 3/10 (i like flash)

5. Battery
Almost the same as Wi-Fi. I am using a IBM thinkpad X40 with a 4 cell? battery and the battery decreases at the same rate as Wi-Fi which is great for extended periods of time. Such as typing this reveiw. I am suprised it does't drain it more which is why i give the battery a 8/10

6. Build
Sturdy not much to report Kind of bland looking cool antenna 9/10

conclusion: While the price might put you off. You can always write it off. I reccomend this to anyone who travels alot or blogs or who's a gadget lover like me. (tip a way to help pay is to cancel your blackberry subscription)

smilepak thanks for posting my review if you like it give me some rep.
About gaming i didn't try it on any real games only flash maybe it'll be different.
So when i do ill past another but until then based on this info I ll give it 9/10 0verall

Yep as far as I know, Bell's got the EV-DO rolling out all over the country this year. I've been able to play with one of their Blackberry 7130e's and I must say, surfing's not like death that I remember it was on wireless devices. (That was in the Toronto region, well actually Niagara)

Make EVDO go WIFI!

FYI...

http://www.evdoinfo.com/EVDO_Product...i_20050427264/

Got Spring or Verizon EVDO? Using it with one laptop? Put that into this baby and share the bandwidth!! heeheh

Kyocera KR1 Broadband EVDO Router Features:

Built In WiFi - rebroadcast EVDO over WiFi (using 802.11g)
4 Port Ethernet Hub 10/100 - great to attach desktops
1 USB port for tethering an EVDO Phone (the production unit only has 1 USB port) - looks like the 1.0 release WILL NOT support printer sharing. They are calling it a "diagnostic port" on the shipping unit. Hopefully, they will add Printer Sharing in a future firmware version.
Works with just about ANY EVDO Card. We have tested with Verizon's KPC650, Novatel V620, Sierra AirCard 580, PC5220 and PC5740. Sprint's Mobile Broadband Cards: Merlins S620, AirCard 580, PC-5740 also work without any issues.
Port Forwarding
Filtering
VPN pass-through
domain blocking
WEP / WPA / Mac address filtering
compatible with 1xEVDO and 1xRTT
