Could some F20 (15.4" version, Canadian model#) owners please post some pics. Left side, right side, screenshots and back.

And what are your opinions of the F20 so far? Happy? Quirks you don't like?

Thanks!

thanks for photos.. what do you think about this notebook?

I like it.... its a good size if you want something to "lug" around. The price point is a bit more managable than the G20.

You do see a difference in the materials being used in the casework, but overall the performance is right up there with the G20. Screen is still gorgeous.... it just lacks the DUAL HD and Raid.

If you are not going to take advantage of the MCE features...I would invest in a higher end M40 or M60.

Thanks for the pics. Did you notice much of a difference in the screens of the M60 and F20? I suppose the F20's screen (and the G20) are a little brighter. Other than that they are fairly similar spec wise. Just as the M60 is very similar to the G20.

Did you consider the M60 when you were looking at the G20? What made you choose the G20 over the M60?

Right now the M60 is on sale for $1999.99. I'm not sure I could justify another $1500.00 for the G20. The only advantage I can see off hand is the "piano gloss black" finish and a slightly brighter screen. And 20GB more hard drive space. As well as the MCE 2005 OS. If that's at all important to the buyer.

Btw...I'd still love to see some screen shots of the F20...if any owners would come out of hiding and provide us with some pics.

The screen brightness and sharpness and overall quality do not compare to anything in the market.

The Qomsio Engine is a big part of this + the dual lamp system. I did an entire post on what the Qosmio Engine is...it is OVERLOOKED BY EVERYONE IN THE MARKET. It is a host of technologies that you will not find in other brands.

I didnt consider the M60 for my needs, as I wanted the best out there....

M60 with trubrite = 220 cd/m2
F20 = 450 cd/m2
g20 = 500 cd/m2

very differnt in terms of brightness....

Yeah it is a sweet system, I like how the back of the screen is alluminum, too bad the whole system couldn't be made out of it. It is a fingerprint magnet. Also the screen is the best I have seen on any laptop, unbelievably bright. You could blind someone with that screen. if only the G20 wasn't $3k...

I have to admit. The screen on the Qosmio are very nice. But to say they are the best on the market...not sure I can agree with that statement...not that I've had the chance to compare.

Can you briefly explain to us what is so special about the Qosmio Engine? Was it this "engine" and the screen that made you spend that $3500?

You say you didn't consider the M60 beause it "didn't fit your needes...wanted the best...". What makes the Qosmio so much better? I'd love to know. Because at the moment I don't see how Toshiba is jusitfied in asking $3500-3700 for the G20. The $2500 asked for the F20 is a little more resonalble IMHO.

And yes...I agree with Cubensis with his comment about hos the finish is a "finger print magnet"...."paw print" even. Might bother some people.

Not sure why you are making it a point to question my PERSONAL decision on the G20. Did I wrong you in some way? Are you upset with my comments? I wanted the best and I picked the G20...I never said anywhere in the forum that other people should buy it...nor did I ever steer anyone on this forum from buying other notebooks. I have offered a very UNBIASED approach to all the responses I give and the NUMEROUS PMs I get.

Read this regarding the Qosmio Engine:

http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...=qosmio+engine

there is more, but I don't have the time to dig it up.

Show me a current manufacturer that is using a screen that gets to that level of brightness? Show me a notebook manufacturer that can get 500:1 contrast ratio. Toshiba is currently one of the only manufactures to use this type of screen. (I had heard rumors that Dell used it, but could never find prove of it). The THICKNESS of the LCD/LID is the dead giveaway....no other manufacturer has that type of casework thickness (required for the 2 lamp system). Show me a notebook that has a 10ms response rate?

However.....you will see this screen being used by other late in Q4 and throughout 2006.

Toshiba can ask whatever price they want....just like all manufaucturers....they are not looking to sell this notebook to everyone. It is up to the CONSUMER to decide if they want to pay a bit of a premium.

The M60 didnt fit my needs because I wanted Dual HD support, I wanted a TV Tuner, I wanted the BEST screen available. I like the piano finish (yes it needs to be cleaned often...just like a car).

I do quite a bit of multimedia, including editing. I like to share my digital images with my guests, hence MCE. I do not watch a lot of TV, but I like to record the shows I do watch.

I like the fact that when people come over to my condo that they comment on the G20. (We all get toys to a certain extent to "show off").

If it seems like I am pissed...you are correct. Not sure what I said directly to Mr.Dark that has him questioning my purchase.

I think "Mr. YP5" needs to Tim Horton's and buy an Ice Cappicino and relax.

I was simply asking for a little more explaination on why he chose the G20 over lets say the M60. Plain and simple.

As I'm trying to see if I can jusitfy shelling out the $3500 and picking up a G20 for myself. Or not. Perhaps YP5 might mention something in his comments that would peruade me to look more closely at the G20. Who knows...

As it is I think at most I might consider the F20. Or maybe a HP 8220. Or maybe the Toshiba M60. Maybe the Dell Inspiron 9300...will have to see...decisions, decisions...

Any how, I'd like to thank every one else for their comments. Much appreciated!

Lighten up YP5...this is just a thread...don't take it so seriously! LOL!!

I am happy with my M60, though that Qosmio looks delicious.

the machine is good for the $ dark, yp makes some solid points in his post, and i agree that he deserves a nice iced cap or maybe even a good scotch, i would get him one on me if he was around.

Jericho, did you read what the qosimo's about in YP5's post? I didn't think so. Granted there are many cheaper laptops with 'better' specs than those of the qosimo for gaming and what not, but the qosimo is made to do multimedia (qosimo engine, dual lamp screen etc) and that's where it stands above the rest and where the extra $ is going to.

BTW I'd love to see where you can find ANY laptop with a 64bit P4 with 2mb cache.

gOOnter, no worries about trying to share info on technology...

Jericho..what type of notebook are you using right now? Curious as to what you value in a notebook.
good question of him YP....

im sorry jericho, but it is a good system and telling people who are buying it or any system with the same graphics card such as the sager 3880 and the acer ferrari among the offerings from MSI and others that they are buying bad machines with outdated tech because they are not getting a 6800ultra/wuxga/whatever is absurd.

im sure that you dont like the qosmio and no one is saying that you have to, but at least respect those who choose to purchase it based on their wants and needs when you are talking about the machine. to you it may not be great but thats just your opinion and telling everyone who owns one their machine is crap cause you dont like it or feel the hardware is not good enough is not right.

you are entitled to your opinion but coming here and bashing a machine/brand and trying to start a flame war is really sad.
