What a great first post this will be...
So back in November of last year I finally received my Sentia (About a month after the expected ship date and multiple calls - as many on here have experienced). I was so excited, I opened up the black box turned on the machine and could barely contain myself - until I noticed a dead pixel against the black alienware splashscreen. I was slightly disappointed, but this is something that I learned to deal with.
Since November I've been using the machine daily (I'm a developer and baby the machine) and couldn't be happier - Well, not minding the dead pixel and the DVD drive's innate propensity to 'fall' out of the system.
A couple of weeks ago my machine was starting to run rather sluggish (as it does after working with .Net for a few hours) and decided to do a soft restart. The machine shut down as normal, however nothing displayed on boot - just a black screen, no alien eyes and the caps lock/scroll lock/num lock were non-responsive. I then proceeded to shut down the machine. I waited a few seconds, powered it up - the machine was dead.
I called into tech support and after spending approximately an hour removing the memory/wirelesscard/battery/cmos battery etc. with a nice fellow, he finally convinced me (begrudgingly) to send my machine in. I received an email with a fedex label (ground of course) and some instructions for packaging the machine. He also stated that the system could be in their possession for up to two weeks... I'm sorry, but downtime of a month to repair a system is unacceptable - so I called in and was able to receive 2nd day shipping after quite a bit of arguing. So I sent in my notebook.
A week later - today - I received a call on my cell at 7:30am my time from a tech asking me to give him a call. I called back at 7:45am and the tech was out for a couple hours so I left him a message. I received a call a couple hours later and to my surprise they're refusing to fix my machine under warranty as they're claiming that I spilled some liquid on the machine. I was sent a couple of pictures (taken from the memory compartment) where something had corroded the memory connectors. I have never spilled anything on my laptop, and I sure as hell wouldn't send it in if I had. Alienware now wants to charge me approximately $600.00 to replace my notebook's motherboard. I asked to take pictures of the other side of the motherboard (where the keyboard is) for further 'evidence of spillage.' I will then call back once I receive these.
Needless to say, I'm rather upset...
What would you do?
