What happened with the screens issues? (sparkles, etc...)

Hi everybody!

What happened with the screens issues? Mainly with the sparkles... When the iXPS2 was released, we saw a several topics about a screens issues (sparkles, etc...) and replecements orders. Why these kind of topics has finished? Dell does change a model screen? they had solved the problem? Or just the guys they had tired!? =P

And about the light leakage, It really disappears after some weeks/months?

I still want to buy new notebook, yes... the iXPS2!

Thanks!

I have the 9300 and it has the truelife (LG) screen. The light leakage that was apparent at first. Went away slowly with time. I was not bothered that much with it. The sparkles never have been apparent.

I have both light leakage and sparkles on my LG Truelife screen. Neither are a problem unless you obsess over them. What pisses me off more is how hard it is to clean the screen with out leaving some streaks. They too arn't noticable unless you look at an angle or look for them, but still...

Try Monster ScreenClean. It is expensive 19.00 , but it leaves no streaks.

Well I'm using the Belkin LCD Cleaning kit. Spent $10 on it.

I first cleaned the screen with Windex the first few times. I think that may or may not have something to do with it.

When I first powered up my XPS2 a week or two ago it had some barely noticable light leakage, that is all but gone now... I can only see it on a black screen in a dark room, and then just barely.

As far as dead pixels or sparkles or any other problems my screen is perfect.

Dell fixed the screen problem long time ago (sparkles).

Hmm, about a light leakage ok, It will probably disappear.

But about the sparkles, it seems that they had solved the problem, to check it, need a comment of a new iXPS2 buyer.

Edit:

Hi ACB, I didn't see you post before post mine last one, thanks!

Edit²:

Somebody know what was the solution?

Windex or anything else that's harsh will bork the protective layer over your screen. DON'T do it. Even CRT's (which DO have glass over them) have a coating on them that can be damaged by the chemicals in windex. For some people using water on a rag (NEVER spray or pour anything on the screen! ALWAYS on the cloth!) works, but I'm not sure about on these particular laptops.

ahhhh t3h sparklez burn meh ey3zzzzz

Yes, Dell stopped using the screens that had those problems, and is now using the problem free screens, at least as far as sparkles go. There might still be slight light leakage, but not as bad as before.

Which screens are these? This is interesting. Are these just different models from LG and Samsung?

All these comments about good or bad screens are absolutely useless unless you mention what brand screen you have.

*sigh*

There were certain LG screens that were known to have problems. I don't know the exact models, but Dell has lightened up on how heavily they use LG, and for the most part, the ones they use now do not have problems.

So Dell is dishing out mainly Samsungs now?

just got an xps 2 a week ago. I have the LG screen, and I notice the light leakage at the bottom very much. It's quite annoying, and I hope it will go away.
I also see what appears to be sparkles, but I don't know if that's what it is, or if it's just the light refracting through the glossy screen. Overall color & sharpness look great on this screen, but the annoying light leakage and what seems to be sparkles do get to me, considering how much $$ i dropped on this thing.
I got a question tho, does dell put a protective layer of plastic on the LCD screen that can be removed, similar to the plastic that was on the back of the LCD? Just curious.

I have a question. I apologise in advance, if it was already answered, but using Search I didn't find anything useful ... The Q: Does a term 'sparkling LCD' reffer to the same problem as 'high-gloss LCD'? Thanks!

LG WXGA non true life, cannot even notice the light and sparkles 0 as far as I can see. Nice color and sharp images, very happy with it. I checked out alot of similar screens with the WUXGA but I am in an environment 50% where there are tons of overhead lighting and Just could not tolerate the glare. But I do envy the way the gloss deepens some colors and blacks. But is is ok the WXGA is surprisingly black where it should be.

nope, the so-called sparkle effect appears as a super fine gray (almost metallic) dust that makes you wanna clean your screen but it's not on the surface... kinda looks like satin fabric sheen or grainy... i have the LG with it and it's no big dea after a few days...

btw, i've also had 1 other LG and 2 Samsungs...

just like the "sparkle", the glare problem is something i've gotten used to... it can be minimized by not havin'g any lights/bright reflections, etc. behind ya... i have light dimmers in my work environment... but i can understand that some ppl just can't live with it...

my other notebooks all have the traditional matte (flat as opposed to shiney in paint terms) finish and they reflect in a difused manner, whereas the glossy reflects like a mirror...
