700m touchpad sensitivity/problem/issues?!?

I also have a Compaq X1000...

The Dell's touchpad sucks! Half the time you try to move the cursor, you get no movement at all and at other times, the slightest touch does a click. I can't figure this thing out. It's like having intermittent control, frustrating.

It is frustrating because the X1000's touchpad is great. I always feel like I'm in total control of the cursor. Almost as good as a mouse, it is that solid. But, the 700m I feel like I'm using a mouse that has bad buttons and the wheel has a ton of gunk built up on the rollers.

I'm using the synaptics software.

Anybody have any ideas???

Thanks,
George -bub

Yes, try a little harder. The 700m touchpad is without a doubt the best I've ever used. It's almost infinitely variable. Just to make sure the pad is OK, why don't you DL the latest Synaptics driver in case your's is corrupted or something, then spend some time reading the help file because it does take a little effort to set it up.

have you updated the driver? if not, do so. if so, play around with the settings. The touchpad works well...it's the first lappie touchpad i've owned where the cursor doesn't jump around due to pressure by your palms on the palm rests.

im with you bub. i have an x1000 too and ive tried several notebooks (including 700m) and the touchpads have always seemed less sensetive. its weird because a majority of the people feel the 700m touchpad is great. so i think it seriously might be something where different hands react differently to certain touchpads.

when i use the 700m then sometimes the cursor doesnt track with my finger and ive tried adjusting everything. but then ive seen some notebooks act like this and they improve over time as you get that nasty greasy gloss to smooth things up. so i guess we need to just give it time. (but i do love that x1000 trackpad)

Well, the problem is obvious, you two are coming to your 700m with Toshiba cooties on your hands. Just wash well prior to using the Dell.
