Starting up an old argument: Debian?

Thread Starter
OK, I really like my Gentoo install so far, but I am getting really tired of compiling every little thing. After some reading, It doesn't look like compiling everything optimized isn't the wonderful boon it is made out to be. The only thing that really matters is the kernel. Everything else you can only expect a 0-15 percent increase in preformance. I am starting to look at debian again as a distro. For those of you who use it, how long does it usually take before new software is included in unstable? I noticed that MozillaFirebird is still at 0.6 and I like the bleeding edge. Is there any alternative binary distro? Maybe a bleeding edge mirror I don't know about?

edit2: Wow, that's stupid; the new forums don't label the post as editted.

YES, I DO. It didn't appear the first time I editted my post. Apparently the new forums have a bug that I personally find annoying, in that if you post, then edit it before the minute it was posted in passes, it won't mark it as editted.

Debian

i run debian since 2.1 I have never managed to quit it. I agree with Keen. Read the debian policy at debian.org. realise what debian calls stable as opposed to other distro. Stable debian mean a lot, and people thta accused it to be old/deprecated just haven't read. I run sid. ( unstable ) and i never had problem with it.
