ATI releases new Catalyst drivers that activates hypermemory for 64MB and 128MB GPUs

So will these new drivers activate hypermemory on the Ferrari 4005WLMi and TravelMate 4402WLMi notebooks? Or is this notpossible with the Mobile X700 GPU? If it works I think this could help the TravelMAte 4402WLMi with it's 64MB X700 GPU. w/ hypermemory (if at all possible) it would have 192MB total VRAM instead of just 64MB.

Anandtech examples shows it can even help the X700 128MB GPU, the more detail and resolution it runs the more benefit from hypermemory.

dam that's cute, this makes nvidia Go series look bad, but until they release the 7600 go w/ turbo cache . but i'm 95% sure they won't, but the 7600 is still gonna rock my world : . It looks pretty cool, I think that is a neat idea to make hypermemory on the x700 and the lower end video card. If they release if for the X800 they'll probably release it for the X700 mobile as well.I know there is performance gain but what the cons? the pros looks good but in order to get pros you need cons .

So does anyone knows if these driver enables hypermemory on the 4402WLMi? As everyone knows this notebooks has Turion 64 + X700 only it has just 64MB VRAM... So if one can enable hypermemory it will get 192MB VRAM which should help in some games but mostly in 3DMark05 I guess where it get's only around 1000 due to 64MB, less than MR9700 128MB and I just cant accept that!

If it'll work then that sounds great, but where did you hear that 3DMark05 score? In a review I read, they said it got ~2400 in 3DMark05...

No this notebook gets bellow 1000 in 3DMark05 and about 4500 in 3DMark03 due to 64MB VRAM. You are thinking of PCMARK05 which is something else... I just need to know if newer drivers can enable hypermemory and if it does help the performance any.

Wow am i hearing this right? a 64m x700 getting less than 1000 in 3dmark05? Surely there must be something that can be done to unleash the hidden beast...any idea why this notebook posts so low? I was expecting about 1200ish - 1500ish stock?

I don't know this is according to a owner of this very notebook at notebookreview.com . I would like to see what it could do with hypermemory. The clock rates is ok if I remember right so I would have to atribute the lower 3DMark03/05 score to lack of VRAM. Games fly though according to reviews... I guess the 64MB VRAM comes more into play in synthetic benchmarks. With hypermemory it would have 192MB VRAM it requires drivers to be enabled though as described in the anandtech link in the first post.

Oh you're right - he only put the 3DMark03 score and the other scores were for PCMark. My mistake.

Well why wouldn't the new drivers enable hypermemory? Does it only work on certain cards?

I don't know. I'm trying to find out if hypermemory can be enabled on the Acer TravelMate 4402WLMi notebook. I'm thinking it cant though... But I would like to get to the "bottom" of this issue.

would the activation of hypermemory on a x700 128m card help it any? specifically to the card in the ferrari 4005?

Extra Video ram will help the Ferrai at higher resolution. (Maybe even higher setting w/ lots of texture and stuff, when they need the extra ram to hold it stable)
If they do release it for mobilty it's gonna kick @$$!!

memory modules

HI.
I am thinking how much is x700 with 64MB physically different from x700 128? And if not(what I suspect because why would they build a brand new board?) why just don`t add more ram? Didn`t they simply pull it out? Anyone with experience around or at least abilities to check it out inside the laptop...TNX

Best Regards

lucktr: yea the structure is the same as far as i know, i guess its just cheaper to have 64mb instead of 128mb

now i have a question/problem:
i have a 64mb x700 so im sure hypermemory would benefit me significantly....but I don't think any of the catalysts, including the new 5.8 (normal and mobility ones), are enabling hypermemory on my laptop? i have an aspire 1694, which has a 2.0ghz P-M, 1gb RAM, and I believe the mobo is an intel 915GM/PM chipset. the reason i say hypermemory isnt being enabled is becasue it still says 64mb under options>details in the ATI control panel, whereas i see people saying it shows an increase (eg. 192mb) if hypermemory's enabled.

main question is: can hypermemory work on any laptop? or do you need a motherboard with certain features? the x700 is on pci-express, i thought that was all you really needed. thanks for your help, ive never read any requirements for hypermemory

Well I just did a quick search on ATI's website, and HyperMemory doesn't appear to be available for the X700 - only on the X300 and X600.

See here.

But on desktop you can enable it for X700 and even on a X800 256MB! I guess for 384MB total. Why would they restrict that for the the mobile X700 specificly where it could be so usefull.

oh damn....nice research covert, i didnt notice that the card had to have the "hypermemory" label to be applicable. thats too bad, and kinda lame...weird how a card that came before the x700 has it but not the x700 itself, why would they do that?? hm well that explains it, thanks

Umm, doesn't the Anandtech review specifically show the 128MB X700 Pro benefiting from Hypermemory?

Hmm, yeah I don't know why their site seems to be so limited in regard to the cards it references. I guess y'all can just disregard my post then.
oh ok then, lol.....but even a 128mb x700 benefits from hypermemory?? wow, so my 64mb must be starving for more memory, anybody have any idea if hypermemory is being enabled or not? and how i can find out if it is
