Acer Ferrari 3400 and Omega Drivers. - Page 2

post #21 of 40
To extend Bozorg's question a bit further too, if you are using your own copy of Windows XP, Are you running, Home, Pro, A Corporate Version, X64, Service Pack 2, or any other combination or install difference that could have something to do with the problem.

Nobody has a ferrari 3400 that does not get black screen. if you do please post if you are using the acer factory windows or if you install your own. If you did please give the windows that you are running (windows home, pro, corp, x32. x64) also please post what drivers you are running

When i got the blank screen my first thought was: whoops..... i need a monitor driver because this plug'n'play one thinks that this screen is something its not....... giving me a to high refreshrate or something....

You tell me if i'm completely wrong here..... but this has happened to me with some other monitors in the past....

Is it possible that a monitor driver can solve this?

or do this happen even if you guys have an external monitor attached?
post #25 of 40
nope the problem still happens when you have an external monitor hooked up

i've the same problem too.. with any omega driver new or old i still get blank screen only sound for game..

been tryed ATI catalist mobility driver but it can't be install cause there is a missing file..

still waiting for anyone can install the driver for ati radeon corectly
post #27 of 40
even the newest Catalyst drivers still end up with a black screen. I was hoping that the problem was related to the use of the acer pre installed operating system but it seems that its not.(could be wrong) The problem still occurs no matter what you do so it looks hopeless to me

Hi Guys,

I found I way to solve the problem related to the new Omega Drivers and the black screen (colored mix them black) and the Ferrari 3400 (maybe 3200 to?) when start a game.
First, you need to know that is a refresh/resolution issue. To play the games you need to do this:

-Start the game;
-Oh no...the screen is colored mix them goes black ;
-Press Fn+F5 one time;
-Press Fn+F5 another time (Now the screen was turned off);
-Pres Fn+F5 again;
-Ok….play the game

That is folks. We can’t have the driver 100% functional, but we can use this trick to use new Omegas until the final solution come.

P.S: Sorry for my bad English.

Hello paulus_hart,

If the new version still get Black screen, use the Fn+F5 trick that I post before:

- Start the game;
- Oh no...the screen is colored mix them goes black;
- Press Fn+F5 one time;
- Press Fn+F5 another time (Now the screen was turned off);
- Pres Fn+F5 again;
- Ok….play the game.

Sorry for not answering for so long.. the forums stopped sending me emails when the thread updated for some reason.

To answer your questions:

I did actually start with the ferarri xp install, but found it.. weird, as if some options that should be there weren't. In any case, I wanted to know exactly what was on my lappy, so I just backed up the actually useful applications acer bundled and reinstalled a windows xp professional sp2. Maybe that helps, propably it doesn't...

So, for some reason the 5.10 drivers release by ATI work for me and not others. At least there's a much easier workaround with the Fn-F5 trick in case my drivers ever resort to the black screen issue again. Which might actually be the case, since I'm going to attempt to install the new 5.13 drivers now available at http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/ . I've read that the jump in performance from 5.10 to 5.11 was just about phenomenal and I'm itching to see if I can squeeze a few more frames out of my miniature nuclear furnace that is my ferarri 3200.

Not sure if you guys came up with another solution for the black screen issue.

What I found worked for me was setting my resolution to 800x600 before running the game (or other app) that would turn black. This works with the newest drivers, too.

So far, so good.

Let me know what you guys come up with.
post #38 of 40
I just installed the 5.13 stuff. um it looks decent, but im still having that blankscreen problem. Everything loads correctly and my devices are working correctly. However, whenever i try to play a game, ie WOW, the screen goes blank and only the sound is available.
all i can say is dont dl the omega drivers or at the least do not tweak your ferrari unless u truely know wat ur doing.

hope someone can find a solution to this growing problem.

o yea im running a ferrari 3200 stock
post #39 of 40
So far, so good. I still haven't found anything that won't run when I first set the resolution to 800x600. It sucks that I have to set the res, but at least I get the updated drivers.

Is anyone else having luck with this?
post #40 of 40
I've found that if I use the Omega drivers Tray Tool to force screen resolutions NOT to be scaled upwards, then that seems to fix it.

I think its to do with non-native resolutions, because with this rescale disabled games are starting up fine.

I'm running Omega drivers 3.8.221 on a Ferrari 3400... but may not stick with them...
