Best gpu driver for World of Warcraft

Thread Starter
I have an XPS 2, w/ 2gb ram and 6800 go ultra, the only game I really play is World of Warcraft and I want to know which driver is best for it. I am using 76.50 xtreme G and it gives me alot of screen tearing. Normally when this happens I just turn Vsync on, but even with that on it still happens. Anybody else had any luch w/ this game and no screen tearing?

I use the 77.77's now. There is no screen tearing, but then again I leave vsynch on in all games. There's no point to more than 60fps, especially since WoW has so many drops in framerate in different areas (e.g. The Wetlands). There is no screen tearing at all with the 77.77s/77.76/77.24 Dell drivers.

So how smooth does WOW run on your XPS? I want to get one bad. Do you have all settings maxed?

I run it maxed out at 1920x1200 with 8xAF (no AA - not needed) except for terrain distance. I have that one notch past halfway. There's NO visible difference between just over halfway and full, but your framerate is greatly increased. In Menethil Harbor as I ran over the bridge to the Wetlands I would get around 22fps with full terrain. With just over half, I'm now getting 35fps. Most of the time the game runs at 45-60fps. I'm not sure why the game runs so much better at just over half terrain distance, but it does. (I would understand why if there was an ACTUAL visible difference in terrain details/distance, but there isn't. If I turn the terrain to low, I can see the visible difference, but not at just over halfway.)

Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Not too small in the slightest. I absolutely love WoW in 1920x1200 and couldn't imagine it any other way.

I have the 80.40's and I've played WoW with Dell's drivers. (77.24). Both run perfectly fine at MAX setting 1900x1200.

You're simply wrong. The 80.40s do not run WoW perfectly. The framerate is fine, but there is some aliasing on the ground that is not present in the 70.xx series drivers. Several users have confirmed this. Just look at the paving stones in Stormwind City ahead of you. They have a jagged look in the 80s that isn't there in the 70s.

I use the 80's and I definitely notice the odd looking ground textures in some areas (Stormwind), but it hasn't bothered me to the point of installing new drivers.
