600m Hard Drive Question

I have three questions about my hard drive in my 600m… first, a couple of days ago my hard drive wouldn’t recognize when I would start up my laptop. It was stating that my hard drive wasn’t there. So I took it out its case and cleaned it off. Placed it back and it started working again… my question is though, is there any chance that this might be a fluke incident and that my hard drive will be fine? But if not how long do you think I have on it before it stops working completely? Every once and a while I hear it click when im playing a game or doing something that requires a lot of activity, and it also runs slower then usual.

And what hard drive should I buy to replace the one in my laptop? Western digital? Who makes the most reliable hard drives for notebook pcs?

It might be a one time incident as the drive may have shaken itself loose while you moved the comp around. You can always run the diagnostics on the drive to see if there is anything wrong with it. As for replacement, I'm not sure what company is best.

Along these lines, what do you guys think is the best PATA drive? Is it the 60GB 7200rpm one?

I have a Fujitsu 80Gb 4200RPM drive and it is excellent.

But can't you tell the difference between the 4200 and a 5400?

Seagate is making 2nd Gen 60, 80 and 100 gig 7200RPM drives that are probably the fastest out there. But good luck finding them.

Hitachi is also making a 2nd Gen 60 & 80gb 7200RPM drive as well. But I think those are too new to purchase as of yet. As it stands right now I believe the Hitachi 60gb 7k60 is the fastest you can get. They are $190 @ zipzoomfly.com Just ordered 2 today.

YinYang, I haven't noticed any difference. I probably would if I had less RAM, but I have 1Gb so the pagefile is rarely used. Other than that its fine!

Okay, that's good to know!
