HP ze5400 wont start up windows

Hello, i am new to this forum and this is my first post. I have an HP ze5400

that wouldn't load to windows. When i turn it on, it boots up then goes to a

blue screen that says windows xp and it just stays like that. My mouse

cursor stills works though. Usually after that screen, it would load into

windows with the start button and taskbar and everytying. However, it

doesn't work like that anymore. I have waited more than 30 mins for my

dekstop screen with taskbar to appear but it doesn't. Any help or suggestion

is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

By the way, i only have 1 hard drive which is the C drive. I don't have a D drive for this laptop so I can't really format the system. I do have lots of stuff that i've saved for years in there and would like to avoid formatting everything. Thanks again.

pop in a windows xp repair disk, (one from dell works best, im sure one of your friends has a dell lmao) pop it in, change the option in bios to boot from cd-rom first, then reboot, it will boot from cd,goo through option and select window xp repair/recovery console when you get to it. From there it should as simple as typing in CHKDSK and you should be ok once that finishes. Then after that reboot go into bios and revert the settings, remove the cd (remember to give it back where you got it from) and reboot you should have a working windows installation again now.

[now if only people answered my questions]
