Anyone have this problem - the laptop will not go into standby mode wheh the lid is shut. It is set to in the power options (XP), and standby works using Fn+F4. The screen just stays on, as if the power option was set to do nothing....

Hmmm...

In XP power control panel there's a setting for what to do when you shut the lid, is it set to going into standby?

I only wish I could get the option to just turn the screen OFF when the lid is closed...

Yup, the setting is to go to standby when the lid is closed. It's strange - I may just clean install XP and see if it's a driver issue. Never heard of this one before...

I do know that on the 8886 there are issues with going in and coming out of standby, but these result in a complete system lockup.

I agree with Myrkat it would be nice if there was an option to turn off the backlight (As this is what some systems do, if you shine on them you'll still see the screen). Apparently switching to CRT mode doesn't disable the LCD (it's smart enough to know a monitor isn't connected)

As for the standby issue check the BIOS just to be able to rule it out.

Go to control panel
-power option
-advanced tab

under power buttons: there's options when you close laptop lid
put it to: do nothing, the screen will be put blank by the little swich near right hinge when lid was close: but nothing will happen for stand by mode unless other option active this mode (15 minute doing nothing or something like that)

Another question on this topic - is anyone familiar with how the close lid switch works (on the 5680)? I think the switch is not working - there's a nub on the lid, and a hole it goes into when the lid shuts. Is there supposed to be something in that hole?

Uh, am I making sense? BTW - this is NOT a software issue. Thanks.

Well on the 8890 the is a little white thin switch sticking up.
Maybe you have broken yours hence it not turning off into standby?

blah i have the same problem , and i emailed sager tech support
this is what they replied

when close the led the backlite should be shut off is control by a magnetic device inside , if the magnetic is stuck , you can try slightly close /open the lcd screen serveral time or use a magnnet close to the switch on the right hinge area. see can release the magnetic .

I tried all that and its no avail in either ways...

I have 5680 model, and I know for sure that little hole for the hinge area suppose to have nothing in it...just not sure whats wrong with it..

Sager offers rma, but I think its pretty stupid for a small problem like that, unless you're pefectionist...well maybe better yet be it for throwking 2k at it..

but only way i can solve it is selection power setting by using turn off monitor in 1 minutes after away... hey it works..just whenever you close the lid, the backlight doesnt turn off it self unless for a minute being away..
