Need advice on 9880 purchase

Before I decide on my final configuration I need advice on the some options. Should I get the WUXGA screeen, because it will only cost $5 more. Why do they call it the wet look? Are the colors richer? Do games or DVD's look any better? Last question, is it possible to watch digital cable or satellite TV with the TV tuner?

Yes, things will be better looking with the glossy (wet), but you'll get more glare.

No, you cannot view "special" feeds on that tuner - you can just use the output of your existing satellite/digital cable box.

I've had two Sager 98x0s, one with WSXGA and one with WUXGA (both glossy), sitting side by side for a couple of weeks, and, in my opinion, the WSXGA looks much better. I think the WUXGA looks blotchy. However, others here have expressed an opposite opinion. I'm not sure they have done side-by-side comparisions, however (as subjective as mine certainly is).

You might search further on this site for other opinions--I think there are two or three threads about the difference in the two displays.

Either way, I think the glossy screens are the way to go.

I've tried doing a search, do you have any links? Thanks.

I have had only one Sager, but my previous laptop had a non-glossy screen for me to compare.

The glossy is beautiful! However, you do get a bit more glare with it, so it might depend on where you use it most of the time, and the lighting you'll have. The only time I've ever had a problem was with having a light directly behind me, but that was easy to fix.

When I first got it, I couldn't stop walking by to look at it, and finally decided I would always leave the laptop open with some pictures sliding across it.

~sighs~

Too bad I can't just leap into the screen and run around in there...it would be so much fun.......

People were talking about comparative quality when the WUXGA first came out, so try searching on "wuxga quality" in this forum.

Well it seems that the both WSXGA and WUXGA are both glossy, so it depends on what resolution I like? If that's the case, I'm going with the WSXGA. I need to decide one more thing before I click the order button. Should I get the 2nd DVD drive? If I can burn DVD's with a single drive by burning disc images, I think I would just get one drive. Will the second drive make burning DVD's faster and easier? Thanks!

When configuring the 9880 on pctorque.com it says WSXGA and WUXGA are both glossy, is this true? I thought WUXGA was the only glossy LCD. Anyone care to comment on the DVD drive question? I plan on placing an order today.

The WSXGA is glossy (I have one and it's glossy). And, as I said before, I think it's higher quality than the WUXGA, but obviously people are happy with the latter as well. I much prefer the WSXGA.

I only got one DVD drive and haven't missed the second. You can burn ISO images (CD and DVD) with the included software (it's Nero) as long as you get the DVD writer drive. I think it works really well.

Ive got the WUXGA glossy screen, and I think its good. The colors are awsome, but side by side i would have to say the WSXGA has better picture. But get the WUXGA if you have really good eye site, it can display aa little bit more on the screen. Both are great though.
