Hi all! Thanks in advance for any comments.
8887, power failure happened while shutting down before it finished shutting down. Now upon boot it haults with an error message :
File ACPI.SYS is corrupt.
Also get this message trying to boot from WinXP CD to do either repair install or fresh re-install.
HD may be fried (wouldn't show up on a test machine as additional HD), so tried a different HD known to be good and got the same message.
Pulled each of the 512MB RAM chips seperately and with each in, got the same error.
Reset the bios to default and now it beeps once at startup and re-boots itself, even with WinXP CD in the drive. (1st boot floppy, 2nd boot CD, 3rd boot HD)
????
I've heard mentioned of clearing the CMOS by pulling it's battery. Is this the large watch-style battery under the keyboard? Pulled the main battery (which is long dead) as well and get the same error. It was WinXP, SP2, all updates.
Thanks
