what would like added in the xps3 ? - Page 2

I'll chime in but the list is long

Dual DVI

External SATA (2) ports

(true wish cuz there just is no room) 2 hardrives - can probably live with the E-SATA though

A true 12ms 24 bit screen

7800 GTX performance or better

Yonah - and the ability to bump Yonah up a speed grade (the 10% overclock that Intel is comfortable with, but that would go a long way to making a world class gaming machine) 2.17*1.1 = 2.387 2.34*1.1 = 2.574 you get the idea what this would do for a "plugged into the wall super gaming option"

The written guarantee that the G80 go will be compatible as an upgrade

The guaranteee that Merom (the 64 bit Yonah) will be an upgrade option

SATA internal drive architecture

I full size keyboard. I'd take it without the keypad if the keys were close to full size and had superb travel. I'd like to see a backlight system under the keys too. But the keyboard has to be gamer grade, meaning able to go 10x as long as a normal laptop keyboard.

Sorry folks, but also a non glare screen! No more mirror finish please.

Low latency memory - yep I can dream but you'd think that OCZ or Corsair should be able to supply Dell with gamer grade memory. If Dell is going to charge big bucks for their own memory at time of purchase, make it super low latency memory!

Plextor DVD-RW drive

A speaker "input" so I could run an external soundblaster card back into the main speakers without going through a bios hack. Even better, mobo makers are starting to integrate Audigy grade sound chips, why not put a Xi fi into this thing! If you can drop in Wireless networking why not Xifi sound?

Wimax and high speed 108 speed wireless networking

An under laptop (with proper ventholes in the structure, ie built for the XPS2) battery, about 1" thick that goes under the whole laptop for those long away from the wall sessions.

Potentially SLI 7800 Go as an option, but probably power will limit this as an option

Expresscard

NCQ on the SATA

A "made for XPS3" laptop cooler

The ability to use regular releases of regular Nvidia drivers, without mods and that don't break our machines.

"Windows Vista" ready...

a 64 bit upgrade path

That's my $.02

Forgot one big thing, an option at purchase to get it without extraneous software! Its stupid that 75% of the people buying these machine take them home and reformat the hardrive first step. Give us a basic windows a basic media player and let us add from there!! NO BLOAT!

A full size keyboard or a smaller screen. It's got all that wasted real estate so I'm pretty sure they could fit a numpad on there, But I'd also be happy with a 15" screen and the keyboard it has now.

AMD processor

Get rid of the SD reader or add CF, XD, etc...

Lose the LEDS, people that want them can mod it in themselves.

Dual DVI outputs.

A power supply that will handle 400hz(I don't think that wish will come true)

And the one thing that is on the top of everyone's list.... A floppy drive.

I couldn't have said it any better. Dell preinstalls shit for n00bs. I don't want 40 processes running; I want like 20 max. I just love how they always try to get you to buy software from them like musicmatch, napster or 3 months free internet from AOL. Seriously, if you have a wireless card in your laptop, I would hope that you would go around the neighbourhood looking for a signal b4 signing your life away with a company that gives out their software in cereal boxes.

7800Go Ultra, Dual core Intel, Dual hard drives quality audio I/O, TV, Mic, Webcam, IR or BT remote with a place to put it, bluetooth accessory stereo mic/headset/mouse with USB recharging cables, touchscreen or huge touchpad, tits, wide Clevo style keyboard, etc..

and for the coup de grace: a case design that looks great all the way around the thing.. top and bottom... someone had better do this before Apple does.

why is everyone wanting to take the leds out? My biggest dream would be to have Mac OS that could play any windows-based game but oh well...

A remote for the media controls on the front

4 Gigs ram

an AMD 64

A cooler on the bottom
Support for 4+ GB RAM
Support for dual internal hard drives (RAID would be even better)
64bit support

Why is everyone so interested in a dual core/64 bit mobile? It will be a few years before systems will be able to take advantage of a dual cpu or 64 bit because of the lack of compatible software save video and picture apps. Asking for 64bit and more ram is futile becuase with 64 bit the ram limit goes from 4GB to 18446744073 GB so assume that they will raise the amount of system ram somewhat higher than what it is now.

I like the docking station idea, but it would have to have a full compliment of ports (parallel, serial, four USB, six-pin FireWire, two PS2, five minijacks for 5.1 sound, line-in, and mic-in, NIC, power, VGA and DVI, etc.). I want the back to be less garish -- maybe just matte silver aluminum instead of shiny/polished. And finally, I want perpendicular-tech hard drives so that I can have a 250 GB one with all my media on it.

The xps3 will be released Q2 2006 - perhaps May

Based upon Napa platform (centrino 3)

Yonah: (successor to dothan)
dual core, 667 fsb, 65nm, x50(2.13ghz), possibly 64bit

Calistoga chipset:
ddr2-667mhz memory and support for 4gb!
Pci express graphics
4x sata-300 ports! (could we see a sata connection on the rear - doubtful)
Golan wireless chipset abg wpa2

I would like to see it have the following:

Azalia hi-def sound
100gb 7200 sata
express-card 54 instead of pcmcia
4 in 1 memory card slot instead of just sd
Nvidia 7800go ultra, 256mb (maybe 512mb!), 90nm, mxm card, out April earliest

All in all a large step up from xps2

As for xps4 look for Intel merom (a BIG step up from Yonah) - 25% boost in performace per clock, 800fsb. Crestine chipset: ddr2 800 and abgn!! wimax!! Q2 2007
