I dunno what happened, I once had sound, and now.... no sound.

I dont have a CPU with hyperthreading. I read that caused problems, but I dont have a HT processor. Just an old 2.6G P4 no HT...

Please help!

yea well it took me forever to get a reply and even then i could still not get my machine to work. Now im havng all sorts of problems.

From aussies review, he kinda did a troubleshooting of the tv studio program. One of his tips was to check the sound volume of "aux". Double click on the little speaker in the bottom right of the screen. Then scroll through there to make sure aux setting is not muted or turned way down. Aside from this i cannot help you. I cannot get mine to work much less troubleshoot someone elses. good luck.

More detail needed Vandelay before I can even start to help you. Can I also suggest you post such problems in the tech support sub-forum as it keeps the main forum a bit less cluttered.

Laptop model #, OS, patches etc etc etc.

Ryan, are you still without sound? Have you checked your master mute (Ctrl Z) is not active? Can you play a CD and get sound out of your system?

hey aussie,,,,i got you. Now,,,i am having tons of problems with the tvstudio. First, I had posted that it would not work. Also, my laptop kept saying multimedia device driver missing. I got all drivers installed,,,,i think. Well,,,then i got it showing up black and white with really bad tracking. I removed the drivers and reinstalled the drivers,,,,then the sftware. Now i get errors saying"cannot create video capture filter" and "Reinstall drivers." I dont get any picture. The drivers I have listed in sound video and game controllers are:

avermedia avertv wdm audio capture (878)
avermedia avertv wdm video capture (878)
audio codecs
legacy audio drivers
legacy video capture devices
video codec
unimodem half duplex audio device

those are the only ones i am not sure what they are related to.
If you can help,,,great.

From that list you are missing:
1. WDM crossbar
2. WDM TvTuner
3. Realtek AC'97 Audio

Firstly shut down any Quick TV icon in the system tray.
Then go to Control Panel -> add/remove
Remove the TV Studio software and any Realtec software (if present).
Then go to Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
Double click on the Aver Media devices you do have, select the driver tab and click on Uninstall.
Do that for all Aver Media devices you find in the device manager.

Get the TV Studio software (tvfleet2 version 4.24) zip file (45MB) from Sager's website (you should already have this). Run the exe and it will unpack into a sub-directory.
Get the Realtec audio drivers (A3.43) from Sager's website (I currently use the A3.43 although I know there are A3.45 drivers available from Realtec's site). Run the exe and it will unpack into a sub-directory.

In the Audio directory created by the Realtec exe run "setup.exe" it will automagically install the drivers.

In the TVFleet directory you will see the setup.exe file.
You will need to follow my previous instructions here.

Anybody tried Dscaler it works alot better than TVStudio but I never have got it to record correctly.

Hey aussie mabey you could play around with it and let me know
post #8 of 12
Erky perky. I installed that Dscaler software (ver 3.1) and although it looks good it caused all sort of horrid system errors. Luckily XP Pro did a system restore point this morning because I had to go back to that to get things working again.

ZoneAlarm barfed, Outlook went south, the lizard that came into my room earlier today keeled over and died, the Gieger counter I run as a precaution against nuclear events started to make strange noises. Basically it was very flaky. In the short time I played with it I also noticed it does not support overlay mode so I could not move it across to my second head (take that how ever you wish to ). I also found its interface to be very quirky.

Ouch sorry aussie
Seems to work fine for me

BTW did you try version 4.0.1?
No I thought v3 might have been more stable. Maybe I was wrong .

Changing my TV application in the middle of watching France vs England in the Rugby World Cup was probably not a good idea either .

FOllowed the instructions. Still dont have the wdm crossbar or wdm tvtuner. I always had the ac97,,,,but i use extigy so i didnt find that important. I still followed your instructions tho. It worked. But now i wanna know if i could get the sound thru my extigy to my external spoeakers,,,,and if i could imrpove video quality.
I don't know why the crossbar or tuner don't show up .
It may be releated to you having the extigy card.

I am not sure about getting the sound to come out thru the extigy. It would appear that the Avermedia drivers bypass the normal sound drivers and talk directly to the audo chips. I may also be wrong with this too as I have not really explored it in any depth.

As to video quality what you are seeing is the difference between a computer screen and a TV signal. One test you might try to remove the effect of the TV signal is to plug a VCR into the laptop and watch a commercial tape. Also get a DVD player and connect that to the TV input (like you would plug your TV set into it) and play a DVD. Then get the same DVD and play it in your internal DVD player. The differences should be obvious.
