3) mine included a full version of XP Home and a recovery disc. I haven't used them though, once I checked everything was working fine I wiped the hard disc and installed my stuff.

4) absolutely not. I can't hear it unless I lean very close to it, and with my "old" tower one meter away the 3438 is virtually silent.

8) don't know it it's just me but after the last driver upgrade I am missing the throttling option on the Nvidia control panel.

3) Mine came with XP Home only on recovery disc. Maybe its possible to use the serial number provided with a fresh install of full version XP Home, Dunno

My bad, it is a recovery disc of Windows XP Home, plus another cd with drivers and utilities.

I'd sooner take the 3438 over the Dell. Dells are hellishly expensive and I've heard bad reports about the screen quality etc.

Hello, I have posted these questions in other thread, but I post them here too (just in case). First I have to say that I am from Spain and my English is not as good as I would like to. Sorry.
Well I have bought the 3438 (M760-2Gb, 2x1024Mb Ram, 2x80 Hard Disks, GeForce 6800-256Mb). I have read through all the thread, and as my English is not very good, I would like to ask some questions:
1- Are the drivers included in the Fujitsu CD enough to use the notebook for everything, or is it better to download any others? what drivers would you reccomend?
2- Is it possible to use the Xp CD included in the package to format the hard disk, and to reinstall the OS?
3- If I format the hard disk, do I lose any program or feature installed in the notebook (perhaps InstantOn)? If so, is it possible to download to reinstall them?

M3438G Recovery problems

i have a problem for a fujitsu siemens laptop model M3438G.

my friend bought it used and the recovery cd was not included.

i tried to setup my win xp home eng but it was not posible to make the soundcard tu run, i spend almost 30 hours on it and i m sure only the original recovery cd by purchase of the laptop can serve my problem.

i tried, read in a several boards, i followed the setup instructions of FS, tried my own ideas, but all did not work out.

i saw a lot of difrent results,
once i have sound at sp2 setup before windows start, but after no sound again.

what i need is a downloadlink or any other help.

Just to leave my contribution:

3dMark2005: 4170
Idle GPU temperature: 50ºC
Heavy load GPU temperature (after 2 hours of playing Battlefield 2 with maximum settings, 8x Anti-Alising, 16x Anisotropic Filthering and Super Sampling On): 82ºC

SuperPI (1M calculation): 37 seconds
Idle CPU temperature: 29ºC
Heavy load CPU temperature (after almost 2 hours of video enconding): 50ºC

To all of those who have this system, and are having problems with the temperatures, all I can say is: replace the thermal pads as soon as possible! I have recently replaced my factory CPU to the one I currently have, and since I had to remove the heatsinks to replace the CPU, I took the time to replace the GPU's thermal pad with Artic Silver 5 thermal paste. That was a big mistake, as I realized (with the help of member Ice-Tea), that the GPU's core and the heatsink surface have a significant gap, and the thermal paste does not make contact between both of them. To make a long story short: I ended up having to purchase and install a thermal pad (wich are thicker than thermal paste) and I can now say it was worth all the troubles: my GPU's temperature had significant drops: idle, it lowered 5ºC, and at full charge (playing Battlefield 2 with maximum settings, 8x Anti-Alising, 16x Anisotropic Filthering and Super Sampling on) the temperature droped 10º (!). This allowed me to raise my previous overclocks to 370 MHz/ 670 MHz, and it stills run at very nice temperatures (keep in mind that the M3438 is famous for running at insane temperatures). So the logical conclusion is that the factory thermal pads are terrible. Replace them with better ones and dramaticly lower that heat!
