You can buy the extended warranty from MSI after you register the product on their site.

Even if you purchased it from a reseller?

Yes you can buy extended warranty direct from MSI. You just got to register your 1029 on the site and then purchase an additional warranty.

Does anyone know if there is a setting to disable the touchpad while typing. I seem to constantly brush it while typing and it screws up the writing. Thanks Rob

I don't believe you can disable it entirely, however there is a setting to disable tapping when typing. Right click on the taskbar icon and select "Property of Touchpad". Select the Touchpad Option tab and in the middle of the dialog box is a section titled "Tapping". Click on the checkbox for "Disable when typing".

Thanks, I did that. Hopefully that will help the problem. Aside from that I must say I am very impressed with the system. The build is great and it seems to be running well. -Rob

Is it possible to use a larger battery with this laptop? Like a 12 cell?
I don't think MSI sells 12 cell batteries for this laptop.... They might in the future.

Ok, I am in possession of the new BIOS...I will install and test this evening.

I guess my question is though, the battery would still fit in the current location? I am not sure if it is that much bigger, as I have never seen either of them in person.

I'm not sure this is entirely accurate. Even if it were, the extended warranty you would be purchasing directly from MSI would be on the barebones ONLY whereas, I'm sure most resellers would be warranting the entire system.

I cant seem to find any sort of Accidental Damage Warranty for this MSI product.

Accidental Damage Protection would be up to the reseller entirely. Usually, this is through a relationship with a 3rd party warranty provider.

Finas:

What is your issue? Is it instablility with your currently installed memory or the much discussed downclocking?

I bought a 1GB DDR 400 CL2.5 module ( double sided) and the notebook doesnt boot. Nothing apears on sceen. If I put that 1GB module on slot2 and a 512MB DDR 333 CL2.5 module on slot1, it works fine at 333MHZ speed.

So, the problem is not downclocking, but instabilily, or incompatibility, as the memory only works at 333, and the only way to force it to work at 333 is to have another memory module that has a maximum speed of 333.

I am hopping that the new bios enables me to run the 1GB module alone, at 400mhz, cl2.5.

It might well do that. I can't say for sure. I'm sorry but I won't be able to release this BIOS prior to testing it personally and, more importantly, until such time as MSI approves its release.

As for the prior questions about thumb drives and memory cards...MSI got back to me and stated that "It wont boot with USB flash memory since it would not be recognized by the Dos." I'm sure if USB flash won't work, memory cards most certainly will not either. Sorry.

Which brand of memory did you buy?
When you put in your 1GB stick, did you also put in your 512 stick (ie 1gb in slot 1, 512mb in slot 2).

I also bought a Corsair stick (1gb ddr400 cl2.5), and i'm worried that might not work - as it is my only stick of memory

MSI's systems can be persnickety about SODIMM placement. Case in point, I recently completed a build on an MS-1013 and had inserted the only SODIMM in the lower DIMM slot which I assumed to be slot 1 (it might well be). The system would not post and I feared the system might be defective. I hit up CoffeeShark who had more experience building this particular system and he suggested installing the SODIMM in the other slot. Low and behold, after doing so the system booted up just fine and is running perfectly.

Moral of the story, you might want to consider swapping the different SODIMMs in the DIMM slots in the event you want to have 1.5GB running at 333 or, you could install your single stick of DDR400 in the upper slot and it might POST just fine.
