Unleaded's - MSI MS-1029 Review - Page 8

I tried that already. doesn't work. the 1gb ddr400 cl2.5 doesn't work alone in any slot. it only works if placed on slot2, with slot1 filled with a ddr333 stick. if I place it on slot1 and fill slot2 with a ddr333 it will not work too!!..

it's a bios problem, and I'll wait for a fix!

What brand of memory is it and what chips does it use?
The memory is made by ADATA/SDATA and the chips are labeled ADATA. it has 16 chips. 8 chips per side. chips are part number: ADD9608A8C-5B

Hmm, generally speaking, the major chip manufacturers are Hynix, Infineon and Samsung.

I'm not familiar with ADATA chips. It might well just be a memory incompatibility. I really can't say for sure that the new BIOS from MSI will address your memory issues as, by and large, it addressed issues with memory using Samsung chips. I'm not certain if they improved compatibility with anything beyond that.

Offtopic for the moment but Windows Vista beta 1 32bit runs great. The sound / wireless / graphics / trackpad / the brightness and sound function keys work. I'll post screenies soon. Currently looking for a firewall / antivirus compat with vista.

Hello Mr. Page Computers mole, welcome to my thread.

MSI-1029 for $755!

No mole here, really. Just used www.PriceGrabber.com and your friends at Page Computer came up as having the lowest price. Don't know anything about them really.

I am debating whether to buy an MS-1029 or the soon to be released (supposedly this month) Eurocom D900K PHANTOM FX2. No matter what laptop you currently have, looking at the specs of the D900K will instantaneously obsolete your current crappy, so if you are in love with your laptop , don’t develop a cheating eye by taking a peak at the D900K . Yea, it will have a hefty price tag and the battery life will probably not be that great, but the raw power and future proofing life span will be awesome. Not a "Ferrari", more like a Lamborghini.

Does anyone know what utility you could use for the msi 1029 to find out the temps of the system while its running. I'm interested in seeing my processor temps under varying work loads. Also does anyone have any idea what typical temps should be for a turion processor? Thanks, Rob
post #154 of 665

I have read the entire Thread ANd I think I really want this laptop.

However, I do have one concern. In the pics of the MS-1029 innards, the ATI chip looked like it was configured as a discreet chip. So does that mean its pulling its 128 megs of RAM off the main Mem? Or ar the dedicated mem chips on the other side of the x700? just curious.
Kue, its dedicated 128mb ram. In windows it shows 1.5gb ram to use.

RobDMB, i use AMD Dashboard to look monitor processor temp. I bet some other system temp monitor can monitor the system temps fans etc. Mine usually runs at 49 to 51c

Thx mystik, I appreciate the answer.

You rock

Another thing came to mind.....I am guessing this x700 Is also pci express? I was just wondering because one vendor made a big deal of advertising that point but others don't mention it. I am just trying to make sure.

Do you have any news on the new bios release?
There is a nice review of the MSI 635 at Tom's Hardware. Not actually a review, but a head to head with a centrino notebook

Perhaps an off-topic question for this notebook, but I see some vendors package it with the Intel Pro2915 ABG miniPCI card. The specifications at Intel say:

Quote:
Intel® Wireless Coexistence System Phase 2
capability enables Bluetooth* co-existence
including Bluetooth Priority Signaling1
Does this mean that this device actually offers Bluetooth or just allows you to add a USB Bluetooth dongle that won't interfere with the WiFi features of the Intel card?

I searched and couldn't find a definitive answer.

I get closer and closer to ordering one of these so just trying cross my eyes and dot my tees.
