This from MSI about the remote control. I think this will also address some people's questions about the IR port:

"The IR Port on the MS-1029 is only designed to work with the remote controller which is not available in the USA. It is not a standard IR Port which you can connect to any IR support it devices (like Cell Phone), thanks."

I had WiFi and Bluetooth on simultaneously and the WiFi signal was on par with all the other laptops I have had in my house - Compaq nc6220, Dell Inspirion 9100, Compaq Presario 2200. However, my bluetooth was not connected to any devices, so maybe you want someone to test that.

Is there a chance that the new BIOS update will fix the problem where the computer won't post when you use DDR400 CAS 2.5? Thanks for any info.

You are using memory which is not on the AVL, so the answer is, unfortunately, no.

The MS-1029 does not have any docking station "ports" so, asisde from a universal docking station, no, there is not a system specific solution.

Is there a link to this AVL?

I am amazed how well some people are able to overcome the temptation to advertise their business. Does it worth it?

Check this out about AVL:

Why wouldn't MSI have the remote available in th US. It is a nice feature that would have made me extra happy with my laptop. Oh well, still the best deal on any laptop in the US if ya ask me. Some day maybe I will be able to come across one.

The taiwan version of this laptop also has InstantOn, so that might be a possible reason why they didn't include the remote.

Darn I have to get supertalents now to fully run at 400. ); okayy, time to exchange some ram.
Any chance MSI will be adding Kingston modules to the approved memory list considering they do list Kingston Memory as being a notebook partner on their website.
I got two 512 stix of viking memory really cheap from newegg and they seem to work flawlessly, no BS underclocking.

Other brands may very well end up on the AVL, however, up to now, the only memory that has tested and has PASSED is Supertalent. In other words, other brands might work fine....but then again.

Efree58, which BIOS version are you running? If v2.40 how did you confirm your memory is running at 400MHz? I recommend checking with CPU-Z but pay particular attention the the frequency it's running at and not the reported type of memory which is installed.
is the 2.41 bios official, or it is still in beta stage?

if in beta stage, when will MSI release it on it's web page?

thanks

Still being more thoroughly tested by MSI's R&D group. I have tested it extensively myself and have found it to be stable and it runs 2 DDR400 SODIMMs (Supertalent) at 400MHz.

Has the Windows x64 compatability been improved yet? Supposedly the Wi-Fi drivers weren't working or something?
They work great for me. Inprocomm wireless chipset and bluethooth are both working on windows xp 64.
No I mean with the MSI wireless card.
the msi minipci wireless card that comes with the 1029 has an inprocomm wireless chipset plus a bluethooth chipset.
