Even my Dad installed SP2 on his old computer with no issues. . .

compatability issue... got it installed on a different comp anyway

where can I find msi-1029 for the best price?

post #585 of 665
you should just look thru all 40 pages of this thread before you ask this question, but i would say either xmeld, rawpowerpc, ibuypowerpc, cyberpowerpc, and others. They are all within a few dollars of eachother. I would say the most you could save is 50 bucks.
post #586 of 665
also its not always about price. you must consider the level of customer service that each vendor gives. after reviewing this thread and resellerratings.com I went with rawpower for mine and couldnt be happier.

I just finish building this laptop with a MT-34.....has anyone overclocked it?...I wanna try to to see if it can make much difference....how can this be done?...I tried clockgen but couldn't find a compatible download for the ATI chipset....anyone know how to do this?

Also I just found out that running off the battery messes up windows. Im running XP pro (32bit) sp2 and if I boot from battery (at 100% charge) it loads windows and goes to a black screen where I can see mouse and move it but nothing else. Also If I boot from ac power and pull it in windows...it switches to battery but I lose start bar and all icons...just desktop and mouse remain...mouse moves but I can;t click or do anything......any ideas?

Left side dropdowb box: Mobiel PC's
Pick Targa Traveller 826T ( Rebranded MS1029) -> Downloads
ATI x700 VGA driver version 6.14.10.6505 for Windows XP (update)

Works perfect ( even with powerplay enabled ).

Actually that got me thinking....I installed the driver from ATI's website (always want the newest) so I just tried the video driver from MSI's website...which is the same version that you pointed me too....worked perfect like you said.

scoot,

i can throw 2000 on my 1029 this weekend and get back to you.
post #595 of 665
i appreciate it that you will give it a whirl. i have a few reasons why i want to run 2k on my 1029 instead of xp 64 or server 2003. if you get by the first reboot during the install then you should be good if not then who knows.
again thank you for giving it a whirl.

Oro!

Your screwed. That's your GPU going up in smoke. The memory or the gpu has been damaged. My bet is on the GPU ( see my old posts regarding how the GPU is not making direct contact with the heat sink & needed to be altered ).

Looks like you need to use your warranty.
post #598 of 665
Yeah, I sent it back. There's one more picture I took. It's of the blue screen of death.

Strange you said it's the GPU, My thought was the video card might have fried.

* lol*

GPU = Graphic Processing Unit = Video Card processor. Its a widely used term for the core on your video card ( think of it like the CPU of your video card ).

wow. And to think I'm getting my master's in Instructional Technologies. I'd better keep up with the terms.
