Unleaded's - MSI MS-1029 Review - Page 4

wizrd, lordsavant, you can find the pics here
http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...36#post1112936

you may have to make your own badge using some transparency film.

wizrd, there's cyberpower, xmeld, and rawpowerpc. there are a few threads on these companies if you use the search feature at the top of the page.

also, xp64 is a bit iffy on drivers with the 1029 - you'll get all the basic functionality, but the drivers are still a bit immature and not perfect. if you want xp64, just be prepared to have a few issues to work through.

Also, does anyone know who the manufacturer of the LCD is? Or does it vary by reseller? Thanks.

thanks everyone. I did some more digging and got most of my questions answered. my choice is going to be between Xmeld and cyberpower... but I do like the fact that Xmeld took the time to post in these forums! It's a little difference in price, but I'm willing to send them the business if they can deliver the same good as cyberpower.

Also, I thought i read something here about the power brick but I can't find it now - how big/heavy is it?

According to a guy at this link , 1029 downclocks RAM if both slots are occupied.
Can someone reconfirm this???
How much of a performance hit does a computer take with lower clocked memory, supposing that the rumors are true.

just to recap, places that sell this are
http://www.rawpowerpc.com/
http://www.xmeld.com/
http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/
http://www.cheapguys.com/

MSI lists a lot of places here but not all of them carry this notebook:

To anyone who has the computer:

How noisy do the fans get under high load?

The Z70V was configured with a P-M 760, 512MB DDR2 533 (granted it's half the RAM) and an 80GB 5400RPM HD and received a PCMark2005 score of approx. 2900.
Was that a Z70V refresh? Cuz I don't understand how X600 can beat x700.

i think pcmark2005 doesn't rely heavily on video cards (tests simple 3d functions only) and is more of overall system performance
post #76 of 665
Ah my bad ... I didnt notice he was referring to PCMark and not 3DMark lol.

Not bad, a 1.8 Ghz MT-34 vs a 2.0 Ghz 760 PM. Although the turion system had 2x the memory and a faster HD. O well. 3Dmark is what matters

who has the cheapest price on this laptop?
sp44, I wouldn't look at it as cheapest price. Look at it as best deal for the money. I say that because there are not many companies offering this laptop beyond a barebones, and prices are so close, you are really paying for customer service. There are four that I have found: Xmeld.com, cyberpowersystem.com, rawpowerpc.com, and there is another board with a guy who takes PM orders... can't think of the name... ends in Accesories.

N.E.way I have been comparing prices for about a week... I'm getting mine from Xmeld.com. Just about everyone in here that has one I think ordered from them. They are a couple dollars higher than Cyberpower, but by far better customer service and support! Hope that helps
