Cleaning iXPS2 case marks.

Thread Starter
Guys,

The silver part below my iXPS2 keyboard has become 'tainted' because of me resting my palm there, combined with hours of playing, the heat from the laptop apparently made my palm sweat and my hand hit the case a few times so now I got a nasty looking 'print' on this area.

I've tried water, Windex, "Big Shot", and tons of cleaners to get this mark off, but none work.

What will work?

I guess its like salty palm sweat inbeded into the ... aluminum?

It's annoying the crap outta me cuz I can't show this thing off with what looks like a cumstain on a prom dress.

Wahahahahaha!
That last sentence!
Priceless!
Anyway perhaps this is a good warning for all of us to clean it regulary...
I know I do...
Have you tried Cillit Bang?

Player...
You'll need to start saving up $$$ for a replacement palmrest assy.
It's the only sure solution...Then make sure you maintain the next one....

Even after extensive use the only marks on mine are from my watch (which I now take off), even so I have placed a PDA screen protector where my hand rests after hearing a few people complain about wear.

It would probably be easier to get some sort of thin black plastic liner to cover the palm rest (sort of like putting shelf paper down.)

Now that I think about it something like this could even prevent this problem from occuring in the first place (and without the wear we could use a clear liner/sheet as well.)

Just a thought.

EDITED TO ADD: Oops, I did not see the last post about the PDA screen protector. That's a good idea and probably right around the proper size.

i use a small cloth like a rag and just rest my hand on it.

I noticed a very slight wear mark from my right palm. To prevent this from happening an further, I placed 2 Sony PSP screen protectors where my palms would rest. Problem solved. Those you can take off and clean easily. And they're $10 for 2 at Wal-Mart (I think).

lol...got the same problem...

solution:
you´d been a clever guy and got yourself 3 year nbd-support
if so, make a call and let dell replace the palmrest for nothing

so far...

@marcmarc
have to admit that this is a really nice site you made there, damn

Did Dell Technical Support agree to ship out a new palm rest?

Doubt it, these things don't normally cover everyday wear and tear...

I don't understand what the "big" issue is....
You can spend 2K+ on a top notch gaming notebook but you can't
see spending $5-$10 a month on cleaning additives to keep it in
like new condition...I have never used pieces of cloth or covers over the
palm rest...and my XPS2 is from March'05. I've used the electronic plastics wipes from day one, each day after using the lappy....

My monthly cleaning budget includes:
- Electronic Plastic Wipes. $3
- Can-O-Air $3-$4
- Belkin LCD Cleaning Kit $6

It's not so much cleaning. It's the amount of use the palm rest is getting and the paint rubbing off. People have different Ph balances which effects our sweat, which in turns has different effects for different people. I use the PSP screen guards so my palm sweat doesn't mess it up.

I have an abundance of laptop cleaning products and none of it do I have to use on the palm rest.

No matter how much you 'clean' your system sweat is still going to wear the paint off.

i was considering just putting masking tape over the palm areas but that'd really take a toll on aesthetics and i worried whether or not the heat and prolonged application would leave an adhesive residue or mark on the notebook. anyone with experience in this matter?
