I want to buy a notebook/laptop. Which is better? Why? I will be using it for general use and gaming. And for wireless, how can I make the wireless network go far from my house. For a sample if I go my friend's house and go on the Internet. He lives about 6 miles away from me. Or go to my mom's house, she lives about 2 hours/100 miles away from me. I could use a lot advice. And the money is not an issue. Please help!!!

I had this dilema a while ago, people would bash both companys and some would praise them, honestly, just go with what you want. I got my alienware, and I love it, my friends love it. i saw the XPS 2 though, and honestly Ic ouldnt tell a difference, they both have great support, both llok beautiful. just get what you want man.

Performance with the dell xps 2 is pretty much on par with all the high ends (in the 3k price range). Dell has their 40% coupon now, so I would suggest going with them. You can get upwards of $1200+ off.

Alienware is just too much overpriced for the performance. Usually it is possible to find almost idential laptop for
more than 500$ less. Winbook.com is an example. Dell is also better than AW. AW is good for those who are excited about AW special design and look.

Personally, I'd say go with a Sager (from PCT) or an Asus. But out of those two companies, if money isnt an issue, go Dell. Neither Dell or Alienware has the best build quality but you should be able to get off pretty lucky with the XPS if money isnt a problem.

Secondly, wireless internet is limited by the range of your router. You CANT acess your home wireless network from six miles away, let alone 100. I've never heard of a router having that kind of range. You'd have to log onto your friends or mothers wireless if they have wireless.

only n00bs buy alienware

and you arent getting 6 mile wireless even if you spend 4000 on a notebook

Dell XPS2 has been the best gaming notebook in the US for 5+ months now. And it's still cheaper, lighter, and more efficient than the more expensive clevo models like AW and Sager.

Buy an Alienware.

That is, if you enjoy paying for little alien-head logos.

Alienwares are horribly overpriced. They perform the same as any other high end system, yet those stupid little logos make it so expensive. Alienware's quality isn't that great, either. If anything, Dell is better.

If you weren't looking for a gaming system, with the money you obviously are willing to spend, I would tell you to go IBM, but IBM doesn't do so good in the gaming department.

I'm sorry, but you just can't beat Dell's deals. I won't pay 2k at Alienware or any other maker when I can pay $1200 for the same or better specs at Dell.
