A790 - Battery draining while off?

Hi, just picked up a new VGN-A790 notebook and noticed something odd...

When I shutdown my system and unplug my notebook, I'm losing battery life awefully quick. The next day when I power up my notebook its starts off at like 90-93%. I'd say its losing 7-10% per 24 hour period. If I leave my notebook in its carrying case with a fully charged battery and come back 7 days later, the battery is completely dead. I'm getting about 1 hr 45 min in battery life on a fully charged battery.

I'm not using hibernate or suspend mode, just system shutdown.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal for the Sony series A, and if not help me with some troubleshooting suggestions, thanks.

p.s. - sony tech support was no help, all I got was, "that sounds normal, the A790 uses alot of power, thats pretty normal" (which makes no sense to me...)

thanks in advance

Does not sound normal at all.
if you cannot return it to where you bought it then you must get Sony to listen and replace it for you.
Such a shame to spend 3Gs and get a defective product and then the bad service from Sony.

My A270 also will show a battery loss after shutdown. I'm not sure if it is a meter problem or an actual drain. I get about the same battery life (1.45-2.0) as you do, but it doesn't hugely worry me. I didn't get for the battery life.

Cheers

When the battery is fully charged and I switch AC power off and go on battery on my A690, it shows 99% remaining than quickly drops to 97% (1h 57 min) - VAIO Optimized is checked. However, with a fully charged battery at shutdown (hibernate mode) and after 8 hours of inactivity I get 78% battery (about 1h 30 min battery life). It is upsetting, but I didn't get it for the battery life either and judging from previous expeerience, no sensible explanation is to be expected from Sony's chat support.

yup.i'm ticked about that too. Yes. it is draining. if my laptop is off for two days it will be down to 80% easy. Thats 20% less running time for just having the unit off.
My 17in dell when off for 5 days, will be down to 97%
