AN INSIDER'S GUIDE ON SHOPPING AT DELL (and how you can get a lower price) - Page 2

post #21 of 31
I seriously doubt Dell is losing any money one way or another. Worse case scenario they break even I imagine but they are also building brand name and consumer base so they still win in the end. Which is fine. They are in a business to make money as all business people are. Ontop of all that the profit margins in the PC business per unit is pretty small. So I dont think Dell is exactly raping anyone. If you dont like them then dont buy their product. Simple as that. I think some people are getting a little worked up about a post over nothing really.

Dell is making tons of money off of the systems they are selling. I have nothing against that. What I do have something against is the difference between being sold and being FLAT OUT ROBBED. Capitalism IS a dog eats dog system... I will not apologize for doing my research and making the system work from me. I'm NOT stealing from Dell. If anything Dell is stealing from us. Have you looked at their RAM prices? They are expecting us to use that $100.00 coupon on stuff like that. With markups like that a $100.00 coupon is really only worth about $35.00. They're making a profit off the sale, and I can imagine it's at least $500.00 after all my voodoo. The systems are made in Malaysia for crying out loud!

I'm not "maliciously looking for freebies" - I'm trying to regain some of that cash I spent on a system that dropped $300 in price 27 days after I purchased it. Instead of fighting each other, let's work together. That's the whole reason why I volunteered the information. As for The University of Tennessee - they gave me a scholarship. Cheers.

Rather than post a new thread, ill revive this one and just ask for some clarification-
I live in the UK, so cannot get coupons. What should I say to the rep to get the best price possible?

Simple question: Since when is lowering the prices of anything to offer a better deal to the consumer "unethical"? In the same token, since when is raising a price to gain a profit on something you DON'T NEED to survive "unethical" either?

Please offer more reason to brand anything about Dell or TheGlover's comments before you post a word such as unethical.

For future reference:
Unethical=http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...fine:Unethical

Key word in unethical is that it must defy morals

As far as the best deals, I can only say this:
Get with anyone who has access to AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service) whether it be a dependent or an actual service member you know.

I saved 1000.00 on my XPS, bringing the cost from 2500 to 1500 just by going to AAFES.

Well, a base xps 2 with the vat less business option costs me 1300, which is acceptible. I am from the UK so the AAFES probably wont work, and anyway I know no-one in that army. I was just interested in the best buying technique.
