A4 Memory Upgrades

Has anyone added any memory above DDR 2700 to there A4? I know the system can't take DDR2 but has anyone run into any problems with adding PC3200 or better to an A4.

I don't have one so haven't tried it, but as I understand it should work fine.

it will default the overall speed to the ddr 2700...but should be fine.

Wait, why is it going to default to ddr 2700??
Because thats what the laptop is expecting...you can't change mem speeds, its fixed to being "the right" speed...hence it will default to what its expecting, 2700.

not so much....

its because it will default to the lowest ram speed in the system. it wont try to make pc2700 into pc3200 if you install the higher speed ram. if you mix ram you will get the higher speed ram running at the same speed as the lowest speed ram in the system. you can avoid the lowering by removing the stock ram and replacing all the ram in the system with the higher speed stuff. if you dont replace it all and mix ram speeds your system will always run at pc2700.

Okay... I figured so long as I updated all of the Ram to PC3200 then it'll run at 3200, right?

As I understand it, the A4 is capable of running in dual channel. That means that if you get two modules of 3200 (400MHz) that are as close to identical as possible (same latencies and all) then it should actually be able run up to 800MHz. However since the FSB is only 533, it'll only effectively run at 533. The rest would come in handy for streaming stuff from the hdd and so.

Now this is all based on stuff I've read, so please don't hold me to it! Let's hope somebody that has actually done it can get in here and confirm it.

Do you have to buy the Kingston (I know this is sort of dumb) but toshiba recommends KTT series of DDR, vs KVR (vaule ram) which is about half the price. Just wondering if it would hurt the notebook?

On my AMD64, I have the OCZ Plaiunum rev 2, TCCD chips and it blazes....

Yes you can

The laptop has a limit of 2gb, i have two 512 ddr pc2700 333 and works fine, in single channel, but fine
