I was wondering what people on the forum thought was the best price that I could conceivably get for my laptop (the specs are in my sig). Thanks for any help that anyone has.

He'd be DAMN lucky to get that. Sure you can argue for the DVD burner, but I've not seen people get 1/2 of what they paid, especially if it's 6 months or 1 year old.

Typically, people just say, "eBay it" because you might get lucky and have a non-sager/non-technical person bid. Me? I'd say ask $1600, and if it didn't get any intrest, then drop it to $1450...

It's not about what it's *worth* but rather what someone is willing to pay for used computer equipment - a notoriously bad market.

Sager 8887 - 3.06GHz HT - 60GB 7200 RPM HD - 1GB RAM - ATI Radeon 9000 128MB RAM - 8XDVD - DVD/R/RW - 256MB MP3 Player - XP Pro

Well, it's 3.06GHz HT, a 7200RPM HD, a gig of ram, and the MP3 player (which is probably crap). highlights are the HD, and maybe RAM amout. It's still worth something. especially when there are still 5660's out there for $1600.

The operative word being "still" - again, I'm not saying it's NOT worth $2000 or $1800 or whatever, I am saying, most people do not pay top dollar for used computer hardware. Period.

I'm sure there is someone out there who will appreciate the value and offer a nice amount, but the odds are not in favor of that. That's all I'm saying.

Heck, my system is basically similar (2 HD's @5400, no DVD burner, but custom color) and I would not expect much more than $1600 if I sold it today. I would probably be offered much less.

It sucks, but that's how it is quite often.

Perhaps if sellers gave new configs and prices as evidence (5680 config XXX costs NNN, 8890 config XXX costs NNN) they could better substantiate their used model asking prices.

I don't think used Sagers sell for anything near their "intrinsic" value, but IMO anything you want to sell is only realllly worth what you eventually get for it.

get it on ebay seriously thats a very nice laptop i would list it like this..

Title : Sager 5680 3.06GHz, ATI 9000 128mb, 1gig ram, dvd-rw = to alienware

if you put alienware on the title people will see it when they search for alienware... sells like a hotcake

also make sure you list out the full specs lots of pictures and maybe some benchmarks... be sure to tell why your selling it so people will trust you more rather than somebody just listing specs and thats it.. tell them whatever you need some money or whatever set a high reserve.. 1700 or so.. that way you can always not sell if it goes for less good luck with it man
