One more time..opinions please?

HI,

Have been reading quite a few posts trying to learn a few things but I am very unfamiliar with notebooks, never having used one.

I am able to finally purchase a notebook and was first researching the Toshiba's but then thought maybe an Apple instead with all the good things I've read about them. And all this talk about wireless security issues has me leaning that way too. Although I'm sure it's blown out of proportion some of the time and taking the basic precautions should be fine, never having used one it's still quite intimidating.

Since I have a PC the notebook would basically be used for the internet, music and some light photo editing/printing, more of a convenience than being tied to my desk. If I knew more about the Apples just reading some of the reviews here would probably be enough but I have windows notebooks on the brain and these are quite different to me.
I would like to spend about $1200-1500.
Can you give me your thoughts on which apple notebooks for a first timer who doesn't want to have to upgrade for awhile?

Thank you for any info

Any of the current Apple laptops will last you for a few years if all you're doing is internet, music, and some photo editing.

In your price range, however, you're limited to just the 12 and 14 inch iBooks and possibly the 12 inch PowerBook, though I don't remember how much that sells for.

Any of those books would work perfectly for what you want, though the PowerBook would be more recommended as, they're all 1024x768 but the PowerBook can be hooked to an external monitor at resolutions higher than it's own. That might be a better option for you as far as editing photos go.

ibook will suit you just fine.

the ibook is not pricey compared to the powerbook. ibook is more durable, resale price is high and best bang for your buck!

but if photo editing is your profession, you should pick the powerbook just to have external screens available

Thanks so much for the info!

Didn't realize about the external monitor.......so that might be better for the photos as you say. I can go a bit higher, just didn't want to get a bunch of extra stuff if it wasn't needed.

Thanks again
Take care

Oh, it looks like Screen Spanning Doctor will work with the new iBooks, so you don't need a PowerBook if you want to do an external monitor at a resolution different than 1024x768.
