Rebate question

I'm thinking about buying a 12inch ibook with the student union deal.. But what's this thing about the rebate having to exclude the ibook 12 inch with cd model for the free ipod mini? So therefore if I buy the 12inch I don't get the ipod mini for free and rather would have to buy the 14inch to get it for free? Could anyone clarify this, thanks!

The CD model is actually no longer sold by Apple according to their sales representatives.

The model you are thinking of, combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) 12 inch iBook, will get you a free iPod mini with your purchase.

I just bought my 12 inch powerbook n got my free ipod but when I bought mine (less than a month ago) it EXCLUDED the 12 inch ibook. I am not sure if it has been updated since the ibook update but you might want to double check that

I thought do too at first, but then I phoned 1-800-MY-APPLE and spoke to a sales representative and then went down to the Apple store itself at Yorkdale and verified if there too. A 12 inch iBook is excluded, but it's the older model which is now discontinued. I guess that's just to prevent deal coupling if there were some stores which were eliminating stock for cheap after the the hardware updates.

Just give them a call anyways since it's free and doesn't hurt and it will give you peace of mind.

Yeah, that's right. It excludes the old 12" iBook with just the plain CD-ROM drive.

Btw, my microcomputing campus store says that your iBook and the iPod have to be on the same invoice for the mail-in rebate to work....

yes, as noted in the rebate offer details, both items need to be purchased at the same time and hence, on the same receipt.

and yes, the "lack" of a rebate offer on the 12" was on the CD-ROM-only 12" iBook that sold for $899 US academic. the combo drive models and now the standard 12" of course offered and continue to qualify for the student union deal.
