Updated my XPS2 to 120 GB 5400 RPM Momentus

I just got done upgrading my XPS2 from 80GB 5400RPM that came with it to the 120GB 5400RPM Seagate Momentus drive. It's working great. Might be a little faster than the old drive but that is probably due to the reformat and reload of Windows XP. I also ordered a new Hard Drive caddy from www.notebooksrus.com so I'll be able to swap out the drives more easily. Right after I ordered the drive from NewEgg the price dropped from $268 down to $253. That sucks, but oh well.

Hard Drive Caddy

Here is the actual link for the Hard Drive Caddy. It took me a while to find a source for one so this should help out anyone that's interested.

I do use an external enclosure, but that doesn't work fast enough for gaming and software development purposes.

I bought the 100GB Toshiba drive with 16MB of cache. It's a 5400RPM drive. I was hoping to find a Hitachi 7K100 somewhere, but *everyone* is out of stock.

The 7K100 is Hitachi's second-generation line of 7200RPM notebook drives. The 100GB model looks sweet, and is supposed to be up to 30% faster than the 7K60 60GB drive.

But even with my 5400RPM drive, I don't notice any lag issues or anything with Far Cry or HL2. It seems about as peppy as my desktop system, which has a 7200RPM drive in it.

All I can say is... i9300/XPS2 kicks ass!
