Display Quality

Dell seems to have gone down in quality in their more recent displays. Currently I have a Dell 8200 with an excellent display. Super quality. Last year I bought a Dell 9200 and the display quality was terrible, I opted for the high end display, but it looked terrible, white backgrounds were grayish, colors were of no comparison next to other machines and the screen actually looked like it had a film on it that was making things look fuzzy. Lots of users agreed and the Cnet.com forums were filled with the same complaints.

I have read other reviews of the 9300 and XPS GEN2 with the same problems. Anyone familiar with this and did they eventually fix the problem???

They fixed the problem as far as my screen goes. There are no sparkles, no dead pixels, and the light leakage went away with time.

Display

I was reading that they had a couple of vendors for the display and if you one was good and the other people were disappointed with, unfortunately you cannot pick your parts down to the manufacturer. I want to update my laptop and $$$ is not an issue, just want it to be NICE.

Curious too about the fans, on the 9100 we have at the office the fans are unbelievably loud.

The screens are not perfect. I have the LG and I like it. It has a dark corner on the lower right side. It does not bother me. There is also a Samsung screen that some people complain about light leakage. You have 21 days to return the computer, if you don't like the screen. The fans on my 9300 are quiet. They mostly run at a low rpm.

Look folks, if your gonna talk about screen quality and sparkles and such, why the hell arent you including some important information so the rest of us can figure out where the problems lie, Unless your post what manufacturers panel you got......LG or SAMSUNG , which model and what resolution, your posting opinions on screen quality is MEANINGLESS.

you can only see the "sparkle" effect if you are close to the screen. Its not even a sparkle, its more of a grain effect.

exactly... it's like a very, very fine layer of dust... it's nothing after you get used to it... just depends on whether you can adapt to it...

everyone reads about all the problems before they get their notebook then look for them when they get it... i did the same thing and it was driving me nuts...

it's ok to look for problems, but then you have to decide if it's acceptable to you or not then accept what you have and ENJOY IT, not linger on the defects... how many things are perfect anyway?

Dell Quality

It's obvious quality is not high on their list, since comuputer reviewers and buyers are aware of their shortcomings and they don't rectify them. When you consider all the people who are just buying their first computer who wouldn't know any better, plus all the foreign markets, just leave it alone and keep the margin up with low prices and lower quality parts.

Call support, be prepared to struggle to understand what the tech is saying, most of the time it is someone in INDIA.

The soo called sparkle, is an anti reflective coating on the screen, on an LG it will have a dirty dusty metallic look, on a samsung its a more transparent, patterened sheen, not a problem at all, Two words you should associate with Sparkle........OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE

ROF LMAO!

i had to go to Best Buy yesterday and decided to look at all the glossy notebook screens, then did the same at Circuit City and another store... every single one i looked at (from a low angle so the overhead lighting would reflect off the screen) had a kinda liquid look (nothin' to do with the so-called "sparkles" lol) that i've heard ppl here talk about... it looks like the difference between a good paint brush job and one that was sprayed... it's nothing that i can even see when just using the screen, just when i'm cleaning the screen, but i've heard ppl talk about... just made me feel good to see it on all of them :-)
