this has got to be the STUPIDEST flaw in laptop designs

When your DVDrom drive is on the right side! On the freakin right side! Same side you put your mouse, or plug in USB cables. Whoever thought of this must be a genius, because everytime you pop in a disc into the drive, you have to move your mouse and mouse pad just to open it, then put it back. grr

WHY NOT THE LEFT SIDE!

LMAO...sorry, I'm laughing because I feel the same way cursing every time that happens.

what if ur left handed? lol
if your optical drive is on left side then chances are that your pcmcia slot is on right side which means ANYTIME you have pcmcia sound card in its difficult to use mouse...considering the frequency one opens their optical drive i dont see the problem with having it on right...
well it has to go somewhere.....

for me on the left i have PCIMA, a usb port, lan, modem, vga out, and fan out, now where would you plan on putting that? I wouldn't want the fan on the right because it would blow hot air on my hand all day

how often do people open up their optical drive while at the same time using their mouse?!?
Yeah, but consider how many times you use the PCMCIA slot versus how many times you use the optical drive... usually, the optical drive is a _lot_ more. Darn laptop manufactuers! ARGH!

well its only common sense, when you compare the ratio how many people using a mouse and how many use a PCI sound card - its totally lopsided hahaha.

EXACTLY!

GOTTA LOVE when youre reformatting or transfering files from CD - and you have to constantly move the mouse over back and fourth. I just say "meh Ill keep it at the end of the desk and use it there" Its just so lame.

The Optical Drive is on the RIGHT SIDE because most people are right handed. They tends to do more with their RIGHT HAND than their LEFT HAND. Thus the right side. It is easier for most people to put a CD in the CD slot with their RIGHT hand than it would be for the other group of people.

Wow..... you have to move a mouse AND a mousepad? Really? Don't break your arm or anything so dastardly.

All the work you must be doing moving that pad back and forth.... a whole what -- 3 inches? Wow, at least you're burning a few calories doing all that labor.

I think this is an overdramatization of something that's more of a preference than a "design flaw". Is it really that hard for you to move your mousepad a few times a day, max?

Sheesh.

Just buy a slot drive or an external drive if you have that big of a problem with it...
sorry for the brag, but front mounted on the S, which of course has its own problems
post #17 of 42
WHY NOT PUT IT IN THE FRONT?

problem solved

Well actually I wouldnt like it there much either...I mean everytim you use the thing on your lap or whatever, you are going to have a tough time maneuvering the machine in order to use the disc drive...

Exactly, but in practice, i don't ever use the CD-ROM drive when i'm on battery, i actually turn the thing off when on battery. it still is a problem sometimes, so basically their really is no right place, actually how bout the back of the unit, just reach back and slot load it in.
