Wait... guilherme, is that link for the new driver located here?: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

Wow! I thought you couldn't get that one to install on an Acer! I'm downloading from your link now.

OK I don't get this:
INF not found.

Start installer with a standard VGA adapter running.

anything I should know?

OK, Guys, If you run that ATI software to determine if "CATALYST Mobility™ is compatible with your system", we'll not be able to install it in the Acer Ferrari as it is not supported (no nb from Acer is supported so far). However I got the link, downloaded the driver and installed it with no problems what-so-ever.
It also ended with botton screen white line for non-native res and got very similar scores to moded Catalyst 5.8.
I'm gonna keep it running.
I had no INF not found message or anything, it just installed smooth. I was running moded Catalyst 5.8, didn't uninstall or anything, just ran the mobility .exe file and got it running, if that helps.

Ransom,

Did you install the driver? No problema?

Sure did. Last night I completely uninstalled the old ATI drivers I was using (Catalyst 5.8 modded with Mobility Modder). Then I ran the driver cleaner I had, to get rid of all the extra files that the ATI Uninstall utility doesn't delete. Then I installed the Mobility Catalyst Drivers and everything works great! I ran 3DMark05 and got just above the scores I was getting with the modded desktop drivers. About 2535 3DMarks. The big advantage to using the mobility drivers, is that everything works correctly in the ATI Control Panel. When I was using the modded desktop drivers, things didn't seem to want to work well for me. But games play great either way.

NOTE: If you're installing new graphics card drivers, be sure to completely uninstall the old ones first! I don't know the details, but I've heard you can have big problems if you don't, or that the new ones won't work correctly (I guess the best way to tell this is to see if all the features work right, and run 3dmark or another benchmark on it).

Any more questions?

Yes... why on earth can't I get it to install >any< driver? I've completely uninstalled my previous driver, and now I'm running on VGA and looking at a 800x600 screen. Everytime I load the driver installer it tells me INF not found and to install the standard VGA (and I checked in Display>>Advanced>>driver>> and VGA is running)... so what am I missing? What do you guys do before you install?
You might need the driver cleaner to delete all ATI files already in your system. (you can skip this step, but I recommend it, just to be sure).

THEN, go to http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst and get the driver listed there. Install that. If you still can't get this one to work, try using the Mobility Modder on the regular 5.8 driver.

But the driver at that site should work.

just updatet from the stock drivers to 5.8 ... no problems - works fine ...
Great... now I"m on my brothers computer talking to you. The screen won't turn on but the computer runs fine. If I hit windows key, down arrow twice (to my music player), enter, enter my music starts playing. So my computer is running. Now how do you suppose I install my OLD drivers now?? These new ones obviously don't work for anything... this is horrible.

What all did you do? Did you run the Driver Cleaner program? How about the Mobility Modder? I don't know which drivers you're trying to install.

This is what I did:

Noticed new 5.8 catalyst drivers
Downloaded new 5.8 mobility catalyst drivers
Used new 5.8 mobility catalyst drivers
Told I must have VGA on
Went to Display>>Settings>>Advanced>>Moniter>>Properties>>Driver>>Uninstall Driver
Restarted
Blank screen.

Definitely rather just use my old drivers, however they worked at least I could see.

I don't see why everyone else on the same laptop has NO trouble whatsoever, and I can't even use anything but stock drivers.

boot into save mode (press F8 while booting) and there you can fix the problems (e.g. install new drivers) ...
For future reference, and no matter what people tell you, you need to uninstall the previous drivers before installing the new ones. Maybe you did this, but that's why I was asking. It makes a difference sometimes, and other times it doesn't seem to matter. Either way, sorry you're having problems. Try the safe boot mode suggestion given by pc.net and let us know how it goes.

I would also try rebooting one more time just to make sure your notebook doesn't fix this problem itself. Don't worry, all is not lost. You just might end up having to use the recovery CDs now. But that's worst case scenario.

Tried that.. safe mode locks up after the Mup driver load. Then I tried entering into VGA mode (typically this would turn on VGA?) and still nothing. So now I'm loading my recovery disks and once again having to reinstall everything (i JUST reformatted yesterday and updated everything, including all Steam games... grr). This time around, I will NOT run any updated drivers unless someone gives me exact step by step of what they did on the same exact system.
Well, if you want someone with the exact same system, then I'm out. And just so you know what SHOULD work: you should be able to uninstall previous drivers, reboot, run Driver Cleaner, then install the new drivers (if using non-mobility driver, you should need the Mobility Modder).

Good luck.

Hey BannedNinja, what error message are you getting? Is it some monitor program giving you a message? Like, "EManagement Error" or something? Let me know, as I'm getting the same error on boot up, and have been working on a fix.

That link worked great on my Acer 1692, no modder, just install and work I firstly ran Driver cleaner, and everything worked fine.

However that link (http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/) is only english version.... Do U know if there is any Spanish version for mobile catalyst 5.8?? Any similar link?? Any add-on package?? I can not find anything in ATI web, only drivers for desktops...

By the way, do U know about any software to monitor GPU temp (X700 64MB)???

Thanks....
