Imic??

Thread Starter
I'm not sure if i should have put this in this area but I was just wondering about anyone's experiences/thoughts on the Imic or any other interfaces around the same price range?

I'm pretty much sold on getting an ibook now, either 12 or 14, and prolly just adding ram and harddrive because i don't think the 12" PB would be that much of a difference for ALL that extra money...plus i like the white...i've been so indecisive between this ibook-PB situation...arrg.

If I buy more RAM for an ibook, how much difference would i see in performance between that and a 12"powerbook that i just leave as is? I would be using an interface to record tracks in garageband...

What kind of cable would I need to plus my guitar or mic into this device? Would it be the same as the cable I plug my guitar into my amp with, or my mic into my PA with? I'm sorry, I really have no idea what i'm doing. I got the music down, just dunno how to get it into the computer and make it sound good...haha
Appreciate any help muchly!

As for the guitar connector they sell one on the apple site for like 20 or 30 bucks (im sure they have it at the store also). I am going to be buying that once I upgrade to a LP from my crappy falling apart acoustic. As far as the RAM goes, go the whole 1.5 Gigs if ur going to be using garageband a good deal. I downloaded NINs "only" and when I try to edit it, it randomly says not enough memory after about a minute of playing (I have 512 and will upgrade at christmas). For everything else thats not CPU and RAM needy the 512 that comes with the system is fine. Good luck!

agreed re: the RAM. if u plan on doing anything resource intensive on your potential iBook (or PB) u should have 1GB+ on your system. check the RAM sticky for a link to a pretty cheap 1GB stick.

I run 768Mb on my 12 iBook, and run GarageBand quite a bit mixing diffrent jams, and the like. 1Gb or close is a must with GB, as it is VERY intensive when you get a lot of live tracks running simultaniously. That said, as far as the input decices, I use USB based devices, so plugging in a guitar might take a couple of extra steps. I have no clue.

As for the IB vs PB debate, I thing the IB's are tough as nails, having had mine for 2 years now, and having had 0 issues thus far. Very trusty reliable machines. I would go with what you like as far a looks. From there, the sky is the limit.
