I have MS Office 2004, Roxio Toast 6.1 Platinum, StuffIt Deluxe 10, iTunes 5.0, Firefox 1.0.6, MacPAR deLuxe, Split & Concat, Windows Media Player 9.0 all running without any problems so far (the only thing that won't run so far is Roxio Toast 7.0 Platinum). I'm connected to my local network and I am able to browse the net as well as the other machines on my network (took a little while to get the file sharing going though). USB keyboard and mouse working. This thing doesn't even feel like a beta, I really couldn't be happier. I didn't expect that it would work so well - the only reason I installed it in the begining was so I could figure out how to manuver around on a Mac - now that I understand a lot more...I think I'll keep it.
you run it on your 6000? what about the widescreen? is it all just stretched out?
I think the 6000 will run will all the graphics abilities of OSX due to it having the intel graphics chipset.

I want to know if anyone has got the new nvidia drivers going though. I can't wait for those to get set up completely, just so I can run at my native res.

huh? Ummm, don'y you i9300 and XPS users have widescreens too - or have I been missing something this whole time? But to answer your question, no, it doesn't look "all stretched out"...it looks fine. If you're really interested in a widescreen resolution, I think some people have gotten 1400x1050 to work.

Ummm, well...I have the ATI x300 - so the whole integrated graphics thing doesn't really work for me. But I'm not trying to play games on this thing. Just manuver around another OS that I had zero previous experience with. Frankly, I really like it.

I will be more willing to play with it when I have wireless and nvidia drivers. i am surprised we haven't seen them yet.

Because there are actually some decent people here that could benefit from this:

I check that forum pretty regularly, I am excited about the possibility of wireless soon.

I really want to check out all of the graphical features and see it at native 1920x1200.
Has ANYBODY (XPS OR 9300) tried the drivers?

btw Back when i had my i6000d , I sold it to a friend of mine i had no problems running 1280x768, the native resolution on it as well as having core image/quartz extreme and openGL stuff working, only games I ran were quake 3 and stepmania, PPC versions. back then the universal binary for q3 wasnt out, whish I still had it to test. Of course this is only if you have the intel 900 graphics card.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.

Anyone have any sucess with the NVIDIA alpha driver for Tiger? Not sure if i installed it correctly, but under system profiler, it says no kext loaded for the card, yet I thought installing the driver would cauuse the kext to load. Anyone out there - please let me know your experience with this -- BTW, here's the link for the driver:

It's been working fine for me.
You got quartz extreme and high (1920x1200) res?
Pyr0, wow I'm a mac idiot, if you got better resolutions to work. I followed these instructions:

unzip the file
open terminal
do the following
sudo -s
enter your password
cp -R /Users/AJB/Desktop/NVidia.kext /System/Library/Extensions/
vi /System/Library/Extensions/NVidia.kext/Contents/Info.plist
look for the line with IOPCIMatch
to edit in vi you need to hit the key shift on your keyboard and a
on that line you will need to add the Device and Vendor ID
you can grab them from SystemProfile
in my case 0x0322 and 0x10de so I add 0x032210de (Got the correct values form the profiler for the 6800 Go)

*** What i did here is replaced the first set of values (i.e. the first video card pre-listed in the file contents) with the value from my vid card.

hit the key esc on your keyboard after you edit the file hit on your keyboard shift + z( twice) to close vi and save
from terminal do the following
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/NVidia.kext
kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/
then you're done!!!
reboot

After a reboot, the profiler notes the name of the card correctly, but says no kext has been loaded for this hardware.

I even re-did this and deleted the nvidia kext in the system folder, rebooted, then looked in the profiler -- it then noted that the video card was a VGA compatable device. I re did the same steps, and rebooted. The card again is now noted as the nvidia 6800 GO, but it says the same thing about no kext loaded. Under the extensions section of the profiler, it list the kexts loaded, but again, the nvidia one isnt listed. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong....

thanks

BTW, pyro, are you on a 6800 go or go ultra?

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but the Download for the Mac OS is on the Newsgroups to DL..

Mac OS X x86 Tiger - Release 1 (Patched)

I have read the instructions that comes with it and it explains a senario of installing the MAC OS first then installing XP and giving the driver letters and active partiton etc.

But, I already have XP installed and I don't fancy reinstalling unless need be. Can I make a MAC partition with the likes of Partition Magic at 10GB then install the MAC OS to that?
I'm just wondering about how the dual boot will work as I would not expect XP to sort that out, surley XP won't do that? noooooooooooo?

Help apprechiated much thanks.

WOOT!
I finally downloaded and installed OSX86!!! runs nice and smooth on my XPS2

Heres a quick break down of how i installed it:
1. downloaded Marklar-Dvd version and patched the .Iso
2. used Partition Magic to create an 8gig partition and used Diskpart to change the type to "AF"
3. booted up with the OSX Dvd
4. used the Disk utility on the OSX Dvd to reformat the partition
5. started the install into the newly formated partition
6. once the install was complete, I restarted and went into XP and moved the "chain0" file into C: and edited the boot.ini
7. went into Disk Management in XP and set the ntfs partition as "active"
8. reboot and Bam! the choice for XP or OSX

Thanks to everybody who posted info in this thread on how to install OSX86

Now to play with installing apps and drivers!!!!

Congratulations!

All these work:
office 2004, iwork5, messenger 5, stuffit, xine (dvd player, works but slow w/out acceleration), Itunes 5.01

Osx software updates will crap out the image, disable them

Cheers

I just can't leave my hands off it, I know got so far as having a DVD that I can boot from (patched against TPM and SSE3). However, booting with -v shows that I'm still stuck somewhere - "Still waiting for boot device" to be exact. Using platform=x86pc didn't help, so I'm wondering what you guys with an Inspiron 9300 / XPS2 actually used to boot?!
Do you already have to have an empty disk/partition/whatever in order to be able to boot? Not even -x or -s helped...
