Regarding video display, in general...

Am I better off configuring a Gateway M460E w/ a 15.4" WXGA Ultrabright TFT Active Matrix (1280 x 800 max. resolution), or 15.0" SXGA+ TFT Active Matrix (1400 x 1050 max. resolution)? I'm talking about gaming, and just viewing pleasure.
Thanks

It's a very different viewing experience. You will actually have more total screen real estate on the SXGA+ LCD, however, if you plan to view DVDs frequently, the wide aspect ratio of the WXGA might be a better choice.

One thing to bear in mind with WXGA is that, if you do a good deal of web surfing, be prepared to do some vertical scrolling....at least that is one of my gripes with that resolution.

Okay, thanks. Does anybody else have any more comments/suggestions to add? How about when playing something such as...a game?

It depends on the game. I recently bought a wide screen and main game that I play alot is Need for Speed2 Underground does not support widescreen.
So its either I play with it looking a little squished(because of the widescreen) or play it with normal resolution but have black vertical bars on the side .
I honestly don't mind the black vertical bars on the widescreen at all when gaming, and the widescreen really shines when you watch DVDs.
Also when watching DVD's there are no annoying vertical bars or much smaller ones than you would get on a regular screen (wholly dictated by the aspect ratio of the DVD in question).
I guess that would be another thing to keep in mind then, that just because its a widescreen doesn't mean that you won't have to contend with horizontal black bars when watching DVD's.
Hope this helps.

I've had a widescreen for awhile, and I actually liked it alot. A lot of games support widescreen now. However, I notice that the regular screen can be pushed to a higher resolution. I enjoyed my WSXGA 1680x1050 resolution because it gave me a wide viewing area for many games. So you might want to go with the normal screen b/c of the higher resolution capability.
